1. Monasterboice is an ancient monastic site located in County Louth, just north of Dublin. It was founded in the late 5th century by Saint Buite, and was one of the most important monastic centers in Ireland during the early Christian period.

The site contains the ruins of two churches and a round tower, as well as some of the finest examples of Celtic high crosses in Ireland. The highest of these crosses, the Muiredach’s Cross, measures over 5 meters in height and is richly decorated with scenes from the Bible and Celtic knotwork.

The site also includes a well-preserved sundial, which was used to determine the time for monastic prayers and work.

2. Monasterboice is open to visitors year-round, from 9:30am to 5pm (last admission at 4:30pm). The site is closed on December 24-26 and January 1-2. Phone: +353 41 982 6459.

3. Admission to Monasterboice is free. There is a small car park on site. Public transportation to Monasterboice is limited, so hiring a car or taking a tour may be the best option for visitors.
