Athens Culinary Immersion: Unforgettable Local Food Tour

We arrived the day before and the food tour was our first experience in Athens. Our tour guide, Andreas Magridge was able to share his love of Greek food with his knowledge of Athens and Greek life. The tour was informative and fun, and was a great way to begin our 10 day vacation. We highly recommend experiencing Athens thru this adventure.

We would highly recommend this tour. What we thought was to be a tour only about food was actually a Greek history/food tour. Andreas did a great job of providing samples of local foods. He also provided the background of each food and where the influence came from for the particular dishes we ate. Prepare to come hungry, we had far more food than we could possibly eat. Despite a torrential downpour, Andreas still made the best of the tour. Andreas kept it interesting throughout the tour. He is full of knowledge. It was a wonderful experience.

Our guide, Andreas, was excellent! He provided the right balance between providing some history and the knowledge of the foods. Every stop on the walking tour was a delicious delight. Come hungry! There's a lot of food. Ask for Andreas!

This was an amazing tour! Andreas blended ancient history and modern economics with stories of food and the samples were great. We ate and walked through locations I never would have found on my own. The information about olive oil was particularly good and I believe we sampled the best baklava in Greece. Andreas made the tour fun and informative. This is a must for anyone visiting Athens!

Best food tour ever with the knowledgeable and engaging Simos! He introduced us to the wide variety of foods typical of Athens and Greece, all sampled from well selected and often long established vendors. Simos shared stories of their origin intertwined with the history of the time. He also shared lots of historic data about the city and the architecture as well, often supported with well organized maps and pictures. We loved the food and the tour! Excellent! Simos sets the standard for all food tours!! 5-Star Tour!!

You should not eat anything beforehand, you will get a lot of fantastic food items and basically two sit down meals as well, so buckle up. Besides the food, Simos, our tour guide, brought in a lot of historical information about the food, its origins and the areas of inner Athens. Great and lovely combo of food and history.

Our youngish guide, Socrates, brimmed with a joy for his occupation. And knowledgeable and willing to express his views. This happened to be a small group of five lovely folk. We never went more than 10 minutes without stopping at a very good or better small shop to sample food or hear about a Greek product. Highlights were olive oil testing, souvlaki, lunch restaurant and honey doughnuts at end. Did not mind occasional purchasing recommendations at all. We'll worth it!
