1. The National Sanctuary of Christ the King (Cristo Rei) is a Catholic monument located in Lisbon, Portugal. It was inspired by the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and was built to thank God for Portugal being spared from the effects of World War II.
The monument stands at 110 meters, including the pedestal, and is made of reinforced concrete with a white stone facing. The statue itself is 28 meters tall and stands on top of a pedestal. It was designed by architect Francisco de Mattos e Silva and sculpted by Francisco Franco de Sousa.
Visitors can take an elevator to the top of the pedestal and enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon, the Tagus River, and the surrounding area.
