NZ's Ultimate TranzAlpine Adventure: Arthur's Pass & Castle Hill

Excellent. Lots of really good stops in the bus, and the train journey was the perfect length. Suggested hikes accessible and really worth it. Great way to spend a day from Christchurch. Guide also brilliant and brought lots of snacks and water!

It was a live and well organised day. Pick up, drop off good in time, the drive=guide very knowledgeable and friendly, the journey trough The Valley and up to Mt Arthur breathtaking.

Good option if you don’t want to drive from Westland to Christchurch. Area was much less dramatic than we anticipated. Train was 2/3 empty ( prices are STEEP at $180/ pP one-way) and well taken care of w/ restaurants and viewing carriage. Certainly would not want to go round trip. Well organized.

This was an amazing day trip! We saw so many beautiful sights. Our guide was so prepared with umbrellas and ponchos. Even though we spent a lot of time in the bus, we had multiple stops, including 2 for short hikes. Our guide was kind and knowledgeable. The train was beautiful, so scenic. Loved this day trip-we got to see so much, especially with our limited time here!

Our driver AJ couldn't have been more accommodating. His local knowledge was outstanding and he really went out of his way to make sure everyone got what they wanted out of the day. The train trip up to Arthur's pass was very comfortable and spacious, and the minibus was clean and tidy. A great trip for walkers and non walkers alike. The snacks provided at the last stop at Castle Hill were extremely welcome. Absolutely recommended.

It was nice experience. We had a wonderful time. Specially our guide was friendly & well behaved he really explained us everything nicely.

The train is luxurious with huge windows for easy viewing and very comfortable seats with lots of leg room. The views are spectacular. Of 10 hour tour, about 3 hours was on train. We had about 45 mins for lunch after train ride. The rest was driving in the bus and stopping for multiple short hikes of 10mins - 45mins each. Each hike showcased breathtaking views or natural phenomenon. Simple but adequate refreshments were provided on bus. Refreshments could be purchased on train and for lunch. Our tour guide Anju worked hard to make our journey enjoyable and provide lots of info about the places visited and the history/geography of the area. He was informative kind and respectful. Excellent guide and he made the best of the very bad and very wet weather in Arthur’s Pass National Park. He was very interesting and knowledgeable and asked us at all stops if we wanted to do things or not because of the weather and proposed alternatives. The weather actually made it very dramatic! Once the weather got better for Castle Hill it was great. I enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed this day tour. Firstly, the guide/driver Anuj (hope I spelt his name correctly) was excellent - very diligent and really dedicated to doing a good job. He looked after everyone really well, and ensured that we were given ponchos (the weather at Arthur's Pass was really rainy today!), and had plenty of snacks and water. He also provided a really good commentary throughout the day. Excellent driver as well, going through the mountainous, windy roads safely. About the tour - Arthur's Pass was very rainy - something to do with the geology etc. Didn't stop us from hiking up to Punchbowl and a few other spots, despite the rain. But just do note to bring a warm and waterproof jacket with a hood and waterproof boots. Good to bring a hiking pole too, as the wet ground could be slippery. The drive back to Christchurch after lunch had plenty of stops at very scenic spots. Finally, the TranzAlpine was fun - 2.5h, more than half of it was through the gorgeous Southern Alps. Overall, totally worth the price.
