This is an incredible experience for anyone who wants to see Machu Picchu but also loves hiking and the outdoors. I was able to see multiple of Peru's ecosystems and learn about the people and the land in the Peruvian Andes. My guide, Herlin, was very knowledgeable and informative, providing a nice balance of history, culture, and environment. He worked very hard to make sure everyone in the group had a good experience, adapting well to different ability levels. He really made us feel like a team and kept the energy high. Every place we camped was beautiful and unique, and having porters and a chef was such a luxury. The food we ate was incredible, with a variety of dishes at each meal. Chef Marquis is so talented and even made us a cake for our final breakfast. Our porters, Francisco and Fortunata, as well as our horsemen, all worked extremely hard to make our trip smooth and comfortable. I was so impressed by every member of the Alpaca Expeditions team and couldn't have asked for more from any of them. Ending the journey with Machu Picchu was amazing, especially with all the logistics having been sorted out by the company. If you get the chance, do this trip. I will say that if you aren't a big hiker and don't have experience camping, there are probably better options for visiting Machu Picchu. The hiking was moderately challenging for someone who hikes very frequently, and the difficulty is increased by the high elevation. And camping for four nights (it's really just two, but you're still sort of roughing it for four) can take a toll if you aren't used to it.

A truly unforgettable experience! Everything was fabulous; amazing hikes, delicious food (gracias chef Marquitos!) and loads of laughs. Special thanks to our guide Herlin who always kept spirits high and brought everything to life so beautifully. Muchas gracias amigo!

Absolutely phenomenal experience. Our guide, Herlin, was incredibly knowledgeable and supportive, ensuring we all made it safely through the trek. The food that our chef, Marquitos, prepared multiple times each day, often from a tent in the middle of the mountains, was absolutely delicious! Loved the glass cabanas and hobit houses, but nothing will beat the view from our last camp site. The trek was definitely not for the faint of heart, but the views and teachings along the way made every step worth it.

Everything was amazing from start to finish. The food was delicious and some of the best I had in Peru - thanks chef Marquitos! Herlin was the best guide and brought the entire trip to life with his stories about the culture and history of the area. The final camp spot is the most incredible place I’ve ever camped.

The Salkantay trek with alpaca expeditions was amazing! The tour guides Edward and Henrycito went above and beyond to ensure the hike ran smoothly and everyone was having a great time! They were so knowledgeable and passionate! I loved learning about the culture and history of Peru from them. The food was delicious cooked by the chef Balberto. There was so much variety and the presentation and flavours were fantastic! We never went hungry!! The hike itself was incredible! We saw many spectacular environments and wildlife. You can’t go wrong with alpaca expeditions for the Salkantay trek.

If you’re looking for a fun, adventurous, social, safe and educational tour, I would highly recommend the Salkantay trek with Alpaca Expeditions and ask to be with Cesar and Raymundo as guides. The scenery and food were absolutely amazing, and what really made the experience were the people. Cesar and Raymundo were such amazing tour guides that were kind, funny and thoughtful that added so much to the experience and were fantastic ambassadors of Peruvian and Incan culture.
