1. The Maritime Museum of Crete, also known as Nautical Museum of Crete, was founded in 1973 and is located in the city of Chania, on the island of Crete, Greece. The museum is housed in the Firkas Fortress, built by the Venetians in the 16th century. The museum’s exhibitions include ship models, nautical instruments, maps, photographs, paintings, and a reconstruction of a traditional Cretan boat. One of the highlights of the museum is a room dedicated to the Battle of Crete, during which the island was invaded by German forces in 1941. The room features weapons, uniforms, and personal items of soldiers from both sides, as well as a diorama of the battle.
