The guide made it to the meeting point when the tour was supposed to start. She informed us that there would be 10 in our group. We had taken two wonderful Lost Plate tours and were thrilled with them, but they were much smaller. Three people were delayed but we went to the first meeting place, a hot pot. It seemed a strange first choice since it was a massive large table to accommodate our group and we had to read over each other to put food in or take it out of the two hot pots. Our tour guide was new (second time) and wasn’t particularly outgoing or commanding and things seemed a bit chaotic while she tried to take beer orders and explain how the hot pot works. Additionally, she kept telling us to not put some of the meat in because we had to make sure the three late people had enough food (it wasn’t an issue at all, but just another example of making the situation confusing) Long after we were done, the other three people arrived we had to sit there while they ordered beer and figure out the hot pot. The other places were good food examples, but we had 5 stops on the other tours and only 4 in Beijing. Also, 10 people made it awkward because the group the tables were usually small and you didn’t have an opportunity to meet your fellow travelers. I understand that Beijing is an expensive city but this tour cost about $25 more and was definitely not worth it.

Haitao was an absolutely amazing tour guide and made sure everyone was comfortable and learning the whole time! Each location had delicious food which was all prepared before we got there, which made it so that we spent no time waiting after we sat down. All the locations were unique and told different stories about Beijing and Haitao explained them all super well and added personal stories about them as he grew up in Beijing.

We had such a great time on this food and beer walking tour last night! The whole experience was really well organised, and our guide was knowledgeable and engaging. We got to try a wide variety of delicious local foods and some excellent beers along the way. Everything was planned perfectly, with just the right balance of walking, eating, and learning about Beijing’s food culture. Highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a fun, authentic, and tasty night out in Beijing!

While the food was good, our guide Haitao took the experience to another level. His communication skills, knowledge, and professionalism were simply excellent.

Our guide Uyi was amazing - very friendly, engaging, funny, easy to talk with. The food was lovely and Uyi made sure we were all looked after at each stop. Was great to see some off the beaten track restaurants that served delicious local food. And then Uyi made sure we all knew how to get back to our hotels. Give Uyi a pay rise! Thanks Uyi 🙂

The evening hutong tour was fun. All the food provided was interesting and Grizo, the guide, spoke perfect English and gave us lots of history lessons about hutongs and the food. Food tour is worth it especially for those with little time to do exploration.
