Auckland: Magical Hobbiton & Glowworm Caves Day Trip

Ian was the best guide I have had. I travel often and he made the experience 1000% better than other tours I’ve been on. He added that special extra on history to fun extras of stopping for coffees early morning and ice cream on the way home. The entire van of guests LOVED him

Shelley, the tour guide, was fantastic. She was so personable and fun. Shelley helped create a great friendly environment while continuing to teach us about what we were seeing on the drive and the tours.

There is a lot of travel by van to Hobbiton , the Glowworm caves, and return to Auckland, but the travel is well worth the cost. Tour guide was great, and tour companions were likewise great.

A truly amazing day! Very long but incredible. Nelson was 5 star! He was great we learned and saw so much. He was attentive and informative he made our day! We binge watched all the Hobbiton and Lord of the ring movies to refresh and the tour exceeded our dreams. The cave tour was fun and beautiful and we truly enjoyed Bubba! Highly recommend this tpur

Shellie was a wonderful tour guide. She was engaging, informative, friendly and entertaining. We had a great day with all of the people on the bus. They were friendly and respectful. We thought Hobbiton might be a bit silly but we were pleasantly surprised. It was well organized and a well worth tour. Highly recommended. Have fun when you go. Everything was fabulous! My only complaint was the lunch spot “homestead” was not good. Would have much rather eaten at hobbiton. The cider and biscuits (cookies) there were fantastic!

Shelly was very friendly and helpful throughout the tour! Give her 10/10 stars 🌟 Hobbiton was a fun experience as Ellie our guide, gave some behind the scenes information that really makes you think and take time to look at the tiny details. Lunch was located at a beautiful cafe and the food was yummy and filling. The glow worms was absolutely breathtaking. The guy who guided the boat was really funny and friendly too! The whole experience was incredible, I would recommend.😊

Tour guide and itinerary were fantastic! All activities were seamless for guests. Bus was a 16 passenger Mercedes sprinter van with a 2/1 seat configuration. Every seat was filled, and it was a tight squeeze. (Knees touched back of seat in front of you) At each stop, we met up with the other ~16 person tour group from the same company, so there was 30+ people on our Hobbiton/ caves tour and lunch. For lunch, we had our choice of savory pie or sandwich plus a fancy dessert. Plenty of choices! Both were great and exceeded our expectations. Timing listed was accurate, we were picked up at 6am and dropped off right about 5:30pm.

If you like the Hobbit, this is a must see. From personalized pick up and drop off at your hotel to lovely guides who tell you more of NZ and its people and life to an amazingly awesome Hobbiton experience, a absolutely beautiful Glowworm Cave experience to a quick shopping stop for reasonable prized NZ honey with plenty of opportunities to eat and toilet the day is long and absolutely worth it. I had the best time and enjoyed the entire day including a well deserved nap on the bus back dreaming of 7 meals a day, meandering through green meadows to living in a hole in the earth ( you know what I am talking about). We additionally got super cool tips what is worth visiting and what a true New Zealander does when enjoying a long weekend. Thank you, Matt. All of this is on the list for next time.

Most amazing must see tour. Worth the time. Our tour guide Mike was amazing and so knowledgeable, kept us informed and entertained the whole trip to and from the destinations. Very well organized and loved everything from the drive, the views, the lunch and the tours themselves.
