Inside Lake Cave, a tranquil lake mirrors the delicate crystal formations suspended above. It’s a magical experience and a dazzling visual display of some of nature’s finest work. Descend a staircase through an ancient sinkhole known as a doline and into a sunken forest to reach this magnificent cave, which features dripping formations and a beautifully reflective underground lake. One-hour guided tours take you into a pristine chamber beneath the karri forest. Your guide uses lighting to highlight various features within the cave while sharing interesting facts and stories. You will witness the rare ‘suspended table’ formation, a one-of-a-kind structure that hovers above a reflective lake. This cave is the region’s most active ‘dripping’ cave, where droplets fall from delicate stalactites, creating ripples in the lake.

We did the Lake Cave Fully Guided Tour and while the price was reasonable, the overall experience was fairly underwhelming. The cave itself is quite small (roughly 80 metres) and while it’s interesting from a geological perspective, there isn’t a huge amount to see. It’s cool to experience once, but not particularly exciting, especially given it’s rated as one of the top things to do in Margaret River. The photos online and displayed in the ticket building also make it look far more impressive than it feels in person, which added to the disappointment. The tour guide Tom was friendly and well-intentioned, however the style of the tour detracted from the experience. There was a strong focus on repeating and remembering people’s names and creating a “rapport-building” atmosphere, which made it feel more like a networking exercise than an informative cave tour. As a result, the actual content (the geology, history, and formation of the cave) felt quite light and surface-level. Personally, I would have preferred less name repetition and more depth and storytelling about the cave itself. The guide briefly mentioned that Indigenous Australians historically used the caves, which felt like a significant missed opportunity. Including Indigenous storytelling, ideally through an Indigenous guide or a dedicated cultural component could add real depth to the experience. Hearing stories about how the caves were used, the people who lived in the area, the tools they relied on, and how the landscape shaped daily life would make the cave feel far more meaningful and connected to human history. Additionally, it could be improved by offering more immersive elements like clearer explanations of how Lake Cave differs from the other Margaret River caves, or visual aids that help visitors understand how the cave formed over thousands of years. Overall, it was fine for the price, but not something I’d go out of my way to recommend. I think the experience would be far more worthwhile if multiple caves were combined into one tour, allowing visitors to see more and get better value for their time.

Very good tour, our guide (Beck) was both knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Definitely worth a visit, as the cave was amazing and the tour good value for money.

The guide Peter was excellent - very friendly, knowledgeable and clearly has a passion for the topics and experiences he hosts. Would definitely love to come back and do the other caves tours if they are half as good as this one! Thanks

Lake Cave was absolutely stunning. It is a fully guided tour which we found very informative. The 325 steps down into the cave & back up again can be quite challenging but well worth every step. I would thoroughly recommend visiting Lake Cave for an unforgettable experience.

Wonderfully interesting cave to see and we had an exceptional tour guide. We really enjoyed the tour! We were happy to see there was a decent amount of water in the cave and some very interesting facts shared. There are a lot of stairs so keep that in mind.

Fantastic tour. Sophie was brilliant as tour guide, very informative and loads of little jokes along the way made a great tour. The cave itself is amazing and loads of special photo opportunities.

Very good cave to appreciate Mother Nature doing her work. Our guide for the tour was excellent and informative. The stairs are hard work , especially climbing back up but well worth it.

A very worthwhile experience led by a good guide. The cave is a beautiful natural phenomenon with some unusual - unique - features. The stairs may seem daunting but there’s no rush. Having a guide enhanced the experience.

A well worth visit with unique features deep into the cave. Be mindful that there are many steps down into and out of the cave - over 500 in total. Fabulous experience especially how deep the cave is. Our guide was both very knowledgeable, engaging with the tour members and great sense of humor. 26thOct 12:00pm tour
