Breathtaking Inca Trail: 4-Day Machu Picchu Trek Expedition

The Inca trail was such a great experience both during the trekking days and the final day when we got to visit Machu Picchu. The trekking days were made so smooth by the hard work of our porters. Our chef Gregorio and our amazing guides Edward and Ethel. Edward was amazing in helping us through the hike as well as teaching us about the history of the Inka civilization. He also had great banter during the evenings and during meal times. Overall I am very happy to have gotten the Alpaca team we did and highly recommend them for anyone looking to do this challenging hike!

So I did not actually get to do the trail. I got sick and had to be hospitalized the day before so my friend had to go on the trail alone. I cannot speak about the experience on the trail but if you ever have a problem, they are HERE for you. I had bronchitis and they still managed to put me on my way to the Machu, and dealt with the bus to Ollaytambo, the train and the hotel in Aguas Calientes. I was able to get back with my group on day 4 and see the ruins with the guides. My guide called me everyday to ensure I was fine and to relay news of my health to my friend on the trail. Honestly, from what she told me (my friend), the food was insanely good and they made sure to have vegetarian options for her, the guides were very friendly and had a lot of information to share and she had nothing but admiration for the porters. While it was obviously a tough trail, she says her experience was very comfortable. I had researched the company before hand and honestly, I cannot recommend them more than enough!!! All their porters are treated fairly and paid accordingly to their work, which is not the case for every company, but they also have very great ethics concerning their customers! I was absolutely distraught when I got news of my health issues, but they still offered a solution and help along the way. If you wanna do the trail, go with Alpaca Expedition, you can’t go wrong!

My Alpaca Expedition journey gave me an unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime experience on the Inca Trail. Our guides, Ricado and Henry, were absolutely amazing — they took great care of us and shared deep insights into the culture of Cusco and the Quechua. The whole team was incredibly reliable, preparing delicious, plentiful meals and keeping our tents clean and comfortable. The hard work and dedication of the porters and chefs were truly impressive and deeply respectful. It was a treasure of an experience — one I’ll never forget.

What a memorable and absolutely brilliant experience! Had such an incredible time with Alpaca Expeditions and the guides Edward and Ethel were just AMAZING!! So kind, supportive, encouraging, knowledgable and all in all lovely ❤️ I learnt so much about Inca culture and history and enjoyed beautiful hikes (which would not be the same without the incredible porters who looked after us so well) and gorgeous food cooked by the FAB Gregorio! Absolutely amazing!!! We did the classic trek and it was one of the best experiences if not the best experience, of my life! Our guides were Edward and Ethel- both brilliant!! Felt super supported (even being super weak with my altitude sickness. The food was amazing (which was a huge surprise!!!)- so shout out to Gregorio!!! Loved every minute and would DEFINITELY recommend!!! The group couldn’t have been better and loved every single second (even if completely winded)! Again, could not recommend the guides and porters more- they are super lovely and they deserve more than 5 stars!!! 🫶🫶

We had the most amazing tour with our guides Edward and Ethel and with chef Gregorio and the team of porters. We cannot recommend this team highly enough, they were all absolutely fabulous. Edward was the best!! So knowledgeable. Thank you Alpaca for the best experience!!

Our 4 day Inca trail hike was extraordinary! Guides Sabi and Dina took very good care of me. The cook German made excellent food under challenging conditions. Recommend 10/10.

Absolutely amazing trek, highly highly recommend Alpaca Expeditions! Sabi and Dani were amazing guides, very knowledgeable and passionate about sharing the history of the Incas. They were also very funny and cheerful, and really made the experience so fun and easy for everyone. The trek is an incredible experience, tough at times but very rewarding, and the Alpaca team is very supportive with everything you need. German and his sous-chef made us delicious food for every meal, including a cake on the last night, which they inscribed with congratulations to me and my partner as a surprise for our honeymoon! All in all, we loved it, the whole group loved it, and we've made memories for life. Thank you Sabi, Dina and everyone at Alpaca Expeditions!!

It was an incredible experience! Seeing Machu Picchu for the first time from the vantage point of the Sun Gate was spiritual. The hike was definitely challenging but our main guide Sabi insured I was safe and continued to encourage me. His humor and knowledge were incredible. Dina, the second main guide was very kind to me, her warmth and friendship very appreciated. . Our chef German made amazing food under challenging conditions.

This trip was the best with our amazing guide Honorato! He was very knowledgeable and patient with everyone. We felt very safe and prepared for each day. Pedro also made us amazing food. You will not go hungry on this trek!
