Pompeii Express: Unearth Ancient Wonders from Naples

Our guide Angelo was fantastic. He was funny, informative and interesting. He was happy to answer any questions very clearly and is clearly passionate about his subject matter.

This is a phenomenal historical experience. You are able to see hands on, how early Roman’s lived their lives. It amazed me how far away Mt. Vesuvius was from the site! I enjoyed the stories told by our guide. We learned what it was like to live your life around 79 AD.

Wear sneakers! I did the two hour tour and it was enough for my husband and I. Our guide was so much fun as well as educated!

We wereWaiting at pick up point. Found guide without a problem. After port pick up we went to the train station to pick up more people. About 45 minutes total. The bus was full and the group was in four different languages. There were multiple different tours on the same bus. Which was confusing. Our guide only took us to Pompeii where we had another guide. Then they wanted us to pay 50¢ for bathrooms! There is a lot of walking on this tour and there is no free place to sit during this tour or when waiting for the tour bus are the end. Wear sensible shoes. After the tour we waited another 30 minutes for a different bus back to Port, with a different guide. Different groups were leaving for different additional stops at different times from our group. Again, confusing... Very disorganized at the end, more people started showing up to "get on the bus"... (See pic). At our first stop on our return bus ride (the train station) the guide said the port is next stop , she said goodbye and got off! Given these issues i think there are better options for a tour to Pompeii.

I did see and got a basic understanding of Pompeii, which is what I had hoped for. The transportation was on time and comfortable, and the guide was experienced. The place is enormous so a 1/2 day is only an introduction, but I still felt like I was on a tourist assembly line. Pompeii, the site, is VERY commercialized and packed. I went on the off season, I imagine it’s a mess during the spring and early summer. The guide’s jokes were a bit stale and he gave a bit more innuendo than I cared for but the audio system worked well. There is more nuance to the role of women in Pompeii society that was presented, but that’s a deeper tour conversation than this one provides. As a basic introduction to Pompeii, it’s fine. If you want to say “I went to Pompeii” but don’t like history, this is the tour for you. Wear comfy shoes with good traction and bring a water bottle.

The tour is very informative, but I would have liked to see more of Pompeii, which you could certainly do on your own. Overall, it a good experience from start to finish.

Lots of walking, but worth it. Fascinating place, with a fascinating story. Were very happy with our guide.

Everything was excellent, from the transportation to and from Pompeii to the guide at the site. Very pleasant and professional. I was also impressed with everyone’s ability to speak several languages including perfect English!

Guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. The selection of sites to see at Pompeii gave us a good understanding of the events that took place and life during this period.

Pompeii is such an incredible place to see, and we loved our tour there. Though it was crowded, we were expertly guided through and given time to look and take pictures.
