Bio Bay Kayak Tour in Puerto Rico
Want a glowing and unforgettable night? This Bio-Bay Kayak Tour is what you need!
On this tour, you will cross a canal inside the nature reserve that is surrounded by various types of mangroves. This protects from strong winds and helps you to paddle easily in peaceful waters.
The best part of this tour is to enjoy the incredible glittering water of the "Big Lagoon"! Tiny bioluminescent organisms called "pyrodiniums bahamenses" are the responsible for this wonder of nature. They produce blue-green light from top to bottom of this bay every time you touch or move the water with your kayak!

Overall a very disappointing experience. While the staff was very friendly, the bioluminescent bay was underwhelming. We could not see anything glowing even though we booked the late-night tour on a night without any moonlight.

Very well organized and professional. Excellent communication to confirm and to convey any messages.

We weren’t able to go because of storms and they were courteous, called and even refunded us quickly while being great. We decided to try again for Monday because they were so professional

The operators for the tour were really great - very friendly and helpful. Though the bioluminescence wasn't as great as we hoped, not their fault at all, and was still a great time. Highly recommend!

We did the 8:30pm tour and saw little bioluminescence, which was fine and expected based on prior reviews. However, the tour guides gave us a tarp to try and see some of the glowing flagellate and after paddling a bit with our hands in the water we saw some glowing bits! Our tour guides (Willy? I think was his name?) provided us with tons of entertainment and laughs and also were knowledgeable about the history of the area! I will say we were a bit naive to not think about bringing a towel and wear a bathing suit/bring a change of clothes for after. However, it was a bit frustrating that our tour guide told us not to bring any bags that we couldn’t keep in our cars (and we Uber’s there from San Juan) so we did not think of bringing anything with us. It would be helpful for the tour company to include info about bringing a change of clothes and towel in the description. Overall, still a great experience to kayak at night through the mangrove trees and Puerto Rican waters!

I can only review the wonderful customer service this company has. We booked a bio at kayak tour for 5 and unfortunately the viewing was going to be non existent. The company contacted us and let us know with the option to cancel with a full refund. Was considering just going anyway but then decided on extra hikes in the rainforest n hopefully we come back and can try this company again.

We could not see any of the bioluminescent wildlife which was a little disappointing. Also the smell of the seaweed was a little overwhelming at times but it was still a really nice experience. The moon and stars were out and I enjoyed kayaking and the calm water.

The guides were amazing and kayaking through trees in the dark was a unique experience. We didn’t see the bioluminescence but it rained which provided another unique aspect.

The guides were great! There was almost no bioluminescence. I really expected it to be much better based on previous experiences.

Great time on the water. Couldn’t see anything in the water due to moon to bright but they had tarps to get under to block the light. Lots of sargassum in the bay and that might have had something to due with not being able to see and glow in the water. Lots of fun kayaking in a group.
