This is your opportunity for us to show you first-hand the beauty of Seward, Lowell Point, and Resurrection Bay. While making our way to our kayaking location, learn about life in Seward, both past and present, from your driver-guide, who will narrate as we make our way through town. As we leave the paved streets of Seward, we’ll travel along the shoreline of Resurrection Bay on the gravel surface of Lowell Road. We’ll view turquoise blue waters and beautiful mountain vistas while we travel comfortably by van to our private beach.
Upon reaching our launch location, you’ll meet your kayaking guides for a quick briefing before heading out onto the water. It’s common to encounter sea otters, harbor seals, bald eagles and leaping salmon as we kayak. We may stop to take a short walk on the beach along Tonsina Creek to view a salmon spawning stream (active mid-July to early-September). This the perfect trip for those experiencing kayaking for the first time or for those short on time.

We went on an amazing kayaking tour with Zeke and James as our guides. I wasn't sure what to expect but they made the whole experience worthwhile! They had all the gear necessary if you forgot to bring something and were very knowledgeable about the area and all the sea animals. We saw harbor seals, dolphin, bald eagles, and more. I would highly recommend to anyone to do this tour. I hope to have the opportunity to do this again!

Our guides were Matthew and Taylor. They were great! We were a family group of 3, so our son paddled with Taylor. We saw a ton of wildlife (sea otters, bald eagles, river otters, cormorants) and had a great time. The vistas were beautiful. One of the highlights of our Alaska adventure!

We were with a guided tour group that had booked the kayaking trip in Kenai Fjords National Park for us. On the boat ride (see separate entry for Seward Coastal Charters) we met our Sunny Cove naturalist guides Maggie and Drew. These young women were very personable and intent on making sure everyone had a great experience and stayed safe. They provided snack boxes on board and offered ginger candy if anyone was feeling a bit seasick. They shared a lot of information about the glaciers and wildlife we were seeing. Once we arrived at the put-in beach, they unloaded all the kayaks and gear while we admired Holgate Glacier. They gave thorough and clear instructions on how to gear up and get in the kayaks and how to paddle properly. They provided neoprene pogies to cover your hands for warmth while leaving your palms free to grip the paddle, and that made a huge difference in our comfort on a cold, rainy day. The six kayaks made our leisurely way from the glacier to the takeout location, chatting with the guides and each other and taking photos. It was fun to look around at the scenery while we paddled, and we saw sea otters along the way. After two hours we reached the second beach and the guides gave clear instructions of how to land the kayaks. While we waited for the boat to come pick us up, the guides offered hot soup from a thermos with mugs and spoons for everyone. The guides loaded the kayaks and gear back on the boat. In the cabin they provided box lunches – I had a chicken wrap and some hot tea. We talked with the guides about biodiversity and other naturalist topics on the way back to Seward. We couldn’t have asked for better guides and we thoroughly enjoyed this whole day.

We had a great time on our kayak tour. We saw a sea otter and some harbor seals. We also hiked along the beach and watched the salmon in the river. Drew was great and a really wonderful guide!

This is THE tour! Yes, it’s pricey, yes it takes all day. But you get so much bang for your buck—worth every minute and every penny! First, the boat crew was so fun and knowledgeable. Zeke and Matt were excellent guides, enthusiastic, smart and entertaining! They really know their info about the scenery and animals that live there. But the animals! We saw humpback and fin whales, otters, seals, sea lions, starfish, puffins, jellyfish and more! Getting right on the water was so great. On top of all that, instructions for everything were given and snacks were handed out liberally. Lunch was a picnic next to a glacier. THIS is why we came to Alaska! Thank you for one perfect day!

My husband and I cannot recommend Sunny Cove enough! Especially our guide, Drew! We ended up essentially having a one-on-one experience kayaking around Fox Island because we were the only ones to sign up that day and we couldn’t have been partnered with a better guide around the island. For someone who has only been on the job for around 4 months, she was SO knowledgeable about all of the different wildlife in the bay and made sure to point out everything she could! We had an absolute blast just chatting it up with her as well, she’s just the sweetest! 10/10 would book with Sunny Cove again and cross our fingers that we got Drew again!
