- The 29-mile (46.5-kilometer River Torrens Linear Trail traces the River Torrens (Karrawirra Parri from the Adelaide Hills through Adelaide city and out to Henley Beach. Good for walkers, runners, and cyclists, many sections of the trail can be enjoyed as circuits. Head out along one side of the river then return on the opposite bank.Spanning over half the length of the River Torrens, the trail is well-made, mostly flat, and largely asphalt, lined with eucalyptus (gum trees) and reeds. It runs under most major roads and offers a range of playgrounds, picnic spots, and even the chance to feed ducks. A cycle tour makes for a great adventure as you follow the river all the way to the Southern Ocean, but it’s also possible to walk the far end of the trail from Adelaide Zoo: it’s about 7.5 miles (12 kilometers).*The River Torrens Linear Trail is a great choice for families and fitness fans alike. *There are bathrooms along the trail, as well as parking facilities. *The South Australian sun can be intense. Carry a refillable water bottle and wear a hat and sunscreen. *The trail is designed to be accessible; travelers who use wheelchairs should be able to appreciate it in full.Most walkers join the trail at Adelaide Zoo or Adelaide Festival Centre: The Festival Centre is just a 5-minute walk from Adelaide Railway Station.
