Unforgettable Etna: Volcano Summit & Sicilian Wine Escape

Our tour of Etna was a wonderful experience. Alex’s knowledge and passion for volcanoes was evident. He gave a detailed history of eruptions on Etna and other volcanoes around the world. Alex provided detailed guidance on how to safely climb and descend the paths to view the craters. After our hike on Etna, we enjoyed an awesome wine tasting complete with a charcuterie board and a delicious lunch at Gambino winery. We tasted 6 different wines with the tasting pours being very generous. We highly recommend this tour.

It was very educational and unforgettable. More physically demanding than had been suggested. Very good guide. The wine tasting was excellent and the food much more than expected.

We had a beautiful day hiking Mt. Aetna with Andrea, our guide. He was so informative and also fun! The wine tasting was wonderful at Gambina Winery. I thought the price was reasonable for an 8 hour day!

From the minute we were collected from our location it was clear our local guide was passionate and extremely knowledgeable about Mount Etna and its history as well as explaining the position around its existence and surrounding impact on the local community. Second part of the day was an informative and relaxing insight into the workings of a modern winery. Gambino did not disappoint with selections of great wines and food. Honestly if you visit Sicily and you have the opportunity to engage in this two part tour then I would recommend MrExcurions as your tour operator. First class day.

A truly excellent day, including the enthusiasm of the guide, the good communication prior to and on the the day. The scenery was stunning, a good time of year for colour contrast. The guide was professional and knowledgeable, kit was provinded to ensure safety of participants. The wine tasting and food paring was great including inclusion of special dietary requirements.

Pleased to report that our expectations were well and truly exceeded by Alex and his colleagues. Alex, forever now known as “Mr Lava Lover”, was knowledgeable & interesting, with his love of all things volcanic and his encyclopaedic recall of the geology, physics and chemistry of what goes on in the diabolical darkness of magma chambers shining through in simple to understand, faultless English. Often, with accompanying diagrams drawn in the black sand of Etna. The hikes were not strenuous, and so accessible for even the most reluctant walker, and the views just stunning. Lunch and wine tasting at Gambino Vini was similarly spectacular, with the food and wine both fantastic. Seated at long tables with our group and other fellow explorers was a welcome opportunity to get to know others in the group, although efforts to avoid talking politics would inevitably be fruitless! Wine shipped home, and no hard sell, the day having already done all the hard work in that regard.

Andrea was an engaging and knowledgable guide! We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and all of the insight he had as a local and vulcanologist!

Alex is very informed and enthusiastic which is infectious. Regardless of the weather he made it worth it. He also looks after your interests once you getbto the winery.

Alex was the best guide. Super passionate and informative. The best reward of the hike was the wine at the end. I went solo and felt really comfortable the entire time and enjoyed the new friends I made.
