Loved our hidden hiking tour with Kan to Fushimi Inari. His youthful enthusiasm and friendliness made the trip for all of us but especially my daughter and son in law who had so many questions for Kan and he happily answered them. We really did feel like we were discovering some hidden and ancient spots on the hill. It was a moderate hike and not a problem for us but we took it slow through the uneven, leaf covered and sometimes slippery spots in the early part of the hike. So worth it to avoid the crowds towards the end. One of our best, most memorable days. Wear shoes with some tread and bring water. A rain tried to blow in briefly but we were peeling our jackets off soon.

Our guide Matt was very friendly and gave us lots of info about the history and practices of shintoism. We also started from the other side of the mountain so it was not crowded and we got to see the tori gates in peace! Since it was just us two, he took us to Tofukuji as a pit stop since we wanted to do it after our tour.

We had a enriching and enjoyable tour with Josh and Anne. They shared information about the history and practices of the various shrines. We recommend this tour to anyone who wants a different tour.

This is a must do tour. You need to be relatively fit and have some good walking shoes. I was lucky enough to be the only one on this tour due to the time of year. I had 2 guides Yuha and Woohee who was a trainee, both were really nice and answered all my questions. The tour was so interesting and informative and would recommend it to anyone.

Our hike was a truly wonderful experience- definitely off the beaten path in parts, which made it feel extra special. We loved spending time in the beautiful bamboo forest where the kids could play and explore. The hike was a perfect balance between learning about the history of the Shrine and enjoying the serenity of nature. Tsukito set a great pace and was wonderful with our kids (ages 4 and 10), engaging them with fun discoveries along the way like finding walking sticks, big ferns (from the ground), and even tasting edible berries. Our youngest needed some carrying (as expected!) but managed much of the route on his own. We noticed other visitors tackling steep, challenging paths (some having to go up many steps while we were walking down), so it was obvious that this tour route was very well thought out and designed to be manageable. A huge thank-you to Tsukito for leading such a unique and memorable adventure!

What a beautiful way to start our day! The hike was moderate and beautiful and such a unique way to see Fushimi Inari and avoid most of the crowds. We were lucky to be the only people on the tour and our guide was very knowledgeable and took us through beautiful locations, explaining everything along the way.

Fantastic tour guide (Shun)!! Enjoyed the relaxed and less crowded approach to the shrine. Beautiful trail through the cedar forest. Red maple trees were peak red color. Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful guided walking tour and hike in Kyoto with Shun. He was great—very knowledgeable about the area, the history, and the nature surrounding us. Walking through such peaceful scenery made the experience even more special. Shun answered all of our questions with patience and detail, and he even gave us great recommendations for places to visit and eat after the tour. We highly recommend this tour if you enjoy nature and want to see the Torii Gates from a different, less crowded perspective. It was truly a beautiful way to experience Kyoto
- Public transportation options are available nearby
- Not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries
- Not recommended for pregnant travelers
- Not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health
- Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
- This hike is not super difficult, approximately 7km in total. But it is not a simple walk and does take some effort. We would not recommend it for people who have trouble walking or are not in a regular condition. We take regular stops and can do extra stops if needed.
- As the ground can be slippery, you need to come wearing shoes with good grip.
- There may be mosquitoes and bugs as the group will hike in the mountain, so we strongly recommend to wear long sleeve shirt and long pants.
- The itinerary for this tour includes some locations that are not accessible by a wheelchair or stroller.
- Summer in Japan is very hot and humid, so we recommend that you bring water and wear a hat to prevent heat stroke.
