This tour is the best way to experience ancient Rome! You get to walk through the Colosseum and actually learn how it really was, not what you may have seen in the movies. You also get to walk where the ancient Romans walked, where see where the Apostle Peter spoke in the Forum, walk where the Caesars walked, and get the most impressive views of Rome anywhere. There is also a gift shop in the Colosseum with some nice books and trinkets to purchase. Tip: Grab a drink and a small snack at one of the bars nearby before the journey so you can use the toilet first as there is only one in the Colosseum and the line will be very long. Also, there are many stairs so if you visit in the summer make sure to bring plenty of water. Note also that the actual tour guide you will have will likely have a different company name than Viator so make sure you look at your booking information closely. There are dozens of tours all goings on at the same time, so make sure you get to your meeting time early and look for your specific tour company.

Carlo was our tour guide and was very patient and thorough. He was very attentive to the entire group. His historical experience was easily digestible. His love for the art and history shined through his storytelling, which made the experience that much better. It was easy to locate the meet up point, smooth transition to beginning the tour, and he navigated through the crowds effortlessly (which is a big deal for the busy tourist spots). He gave time for photos, was intentional about the good photo opportunities, and answered all of our questions. Grazie Carlo for showing us such a beautiful part of Roman history!

Sylvia's passion and knowledge, she is truly excellent! Personable and kind, 3 hours went by so quickly. Do not skip this tour as it has so many beautiful vistas and amazing history.

Sylvia was excellent tour guide ...so informative.She is an archaeolologist ...makes it even better.She gave us a lot of extra information and took us to Palatine Hill that most other guides skip.

We had a fab time. Cosimo our guide was brilliant. Full of interesting facts and stories for the whole 3 hours. He was funny, charming, and made every effort to look after everyone. Excellent day

Very enjoyable and our guide, Fabio, was a font of knowledge. It’ll come as no surprise that the Colosseum is extremely busy, as is Palatine Hill…but it’s well worth it. We went in October and the weather was perfect…I couldn’t imagine doing this tour in the middle of summer though.

First make sure to wear comfortable footwear. It was amazing to see the Colosseum in person and to learn about its history. I learned so much in that short time. Our tour guide was so nice and knowledgeable. She made the tour even better. There is a lot of walking and I was happy we came in October. I am not sure we would have been able to survive a really hot Summer day. It was quite an experience.

Coliseum is not only the pictures from outside it has a lot of history inside our tour lady was very passionate and showed knowledge in a lot of detail while she walk us through the history. I really recommend this tour and no lines to go in which is a big plus
