Journey along Edinburgh's Royal Mile hearing some of Edinburgh's darker history before visiting the infamous hidden and supposedly haunted vaults beneath the South Bridge in Edinburgh Old Town. Hear tales of how the poor and unfortunate lived in these former slums. Explore these dimly lit vaults by candlelight, once the haunt of criminals, body snatchers and witches alike, said by some to now be occupied by a few of the spirits of these inhabitants long since dead. Each vault has stories of crime, disease, death and lots more... with which your guide shall enlighten you in all the gory details! You will see a genuine witchcraft temple, recently used by a Wiccan coven and you will enter their former temple. Join us to learn why it is no longer safe for them to practice their craft in that vault. DARE you step inside the infamous stone circle?

Lisa was very animated and fun. The vaults are depressing (not surprising) and the vault portion of the tour is quite short.

Aimee was our fantastic tour guide. We didnt anticipate it being that entertaining but it Aimee kept it interesting, funny and scary for the whole tour. Well worth taking the tour.

The tour is split in two parts - above and below ground. The above ground part focuses on some historical facts and takes you along the Royal Mile. In the underground part, you get to visit two vaults. This part is very focussed on the “haunted” side, as opposed to historical facts (although you still get some).

So so interesting. This tour was an experience because it brought to life past history of Edinburgh and how those most unfortunate lived. The additional facts provided were informative and relevant. A must do when visiting Edinburgh.

This tour for us was very uneventful. We were hoping to get the good tour by Merck but it obviously did not happen.

You need to take care when in the vaults. If you’re unsteady on your feet reconsider. It was well worth the experience. James was fantastic.
