Excellent, very interesting and informative. Our guides were excellent and extremely knowledgeable. Loved it.

I booked an excursion on Viator with Tours Naturaleza Bacalar in Costa Maya, Mexico, on November 28, 2025. The tour company guide greeted us then left us at the pick up location for an hour. By the time she returned it was too late for our excursion and we were left stranded. Octavio from Costa Maya Experiences took pity on us and let us ride with his group to see the ruins even though we were not his customers. They were extremely friendly, gracious, and knowledgeable, and saved what started as a disastrous day. Thank you for your generosity and compassion!

This was a great tour. Highly recommend it. Ishmael was our guide and Sandra was our driver. We loved how local the experience was and nice small group size. The personal touches like seeing Ishmael’s village and stoping at the fruit stand were the best to understand how life is different for us but also very much the same too. The history shared about Mayans was excellent and the park was beautifully done. Just pay attention to the instructions sent to you for the meet up spot. But if you get confused the other tour guide companies are all very nice and help you find the right tour! Costa Maya guides are all very kind.

Our guide Rafael was extremely knowledgeable about the ruins we visited and made this tour really enjoyable and educational. His knowledge and history of the Mayans and Aztecs was second to none. We had a small group of 8 to 9 people so the tour itself was nice. This was one of the most interesting tours we have ever had. If you visit Costa Maya, try to get Rafael as your guide. We even stopped on the way back and had tastes of the honey pineapple from a local stand, it was absolutely delicious. Thank Rafael for the education you shared with us.

Our guide was very knowledgeable of the ruins and Mayan history in general. There is about 30 to 40 min walk to the ruins but some benches available if you need to sit down for a bit. We stopped on the way back at a roadside stand for some honey pineapple that was very good. Bring bug spray because mosquitoes might be an issue. Overall, if you want to learn some history on the area then this trip is for you.

You have to travel for 45 minutes to get to the ruin. Have to climb a steep stairs or opt not to. Since some of us were seniors we opt not to go up. 🤗 Learned a lot about the Mayan’s ancient way of living, and governing.

Our trip to Chacchoben was an absolute delightful experience, but what made it so special was the about three hours together we spent with Rafael (our driver) and Octavio (our guide). These two gentlemen were precious indeed! As far as we're concerned this was a "private" tour for two, since we were the only ones. We felt safe, were treated with respect, and Octavio's knowledge of Mayan history and culture was superb. At Chacchoben visitors can explore a portion of the extensive but easily manageable ruins, which include structures like Temple One and the Temple of the Sun. Although we preferred the tour in Spanish, Octavio is as good in English as he is in Spanish. When my wife needed a band aid for her foot right before we headed back to the port, Rafael went out of his way to find one from one of his fellow drivers from another tour company. That simple act of courtesy was so touching. It was not just an example of great customer care, it was a beautiful demonstration of just plain human decency. Choose this tour and you'll be in good hands while getting an opportunity to learn everything you need to know about an impressive long lost culture. I give the whole experience an A+. Thank you Octavio and Rafael!

Absolutely awesome experience with Rafael - good energy, knowledgeable and friendly. We learned so much and it felt like a personalized tour. It ended up being our family of 5 and another family - so like a semi-private tour. We stopped for delicious pineapple and spent a lovely time visiting the Mayan Ruins and learning about the history. Would highly recommend it!
