1. The Salzburg Salt Mines (Salzbergwerk) are located in the town of Hallein, just outside of Salzburg. They are a UNESCO World Heritage site and have been in operation for over 2,500 years. The mines cover an area of approximately 65 kilometers and were once the largest source of salt in the world. Visitors can take a guided tour of the mines and learn about the history of salt mining, as well as see underground lakes, tunnels and slides. One of the highlights of the tour is riding a wooden slide down into the heart of the mountain.

3. Tickets can be purchased at the Salt Mine’s ticket office or online. Prices range from €18 - €30 depending on age and package. Transportation to the mines is easy with public buses and trains running regularly from Salzburg. Visitors can also take a guided tour with transportation included.
