The tour was interesting , although the driver seemed unsure of his facts at times and lacked enthusiasm so it felt somewhat “downbeat”. Compared to service on our ship this was disappointing. Very little time for lunch. We were experiencing internet problems and as our 1st port of call, had hoped to find tech assistance, but gave up due to time restrictions.

The lack of accessibility was disappointing for a public place in the 21st century. If you have a disability, mobility or breathing difficulties, I wouldn't bother spending the money on a ticket. If you do go, make sure you ask the person at the entrance gate to direct you to the accessible parking area - we only discovered this after my husband struggled with the walk from the public car park. Thereafter you cannot expect to see anything in the castle except a short film on the ground level, accessed via the gift shop. And you will see little of the gardens unless you bring your own mobilty scooter or electric wheelchair. You can access the 'ballroom' for refreshments, and we enjoyed the 'high tea'. I really hope someone sees this review who is in a position to make change happen. People with disabilities deserve a better deal at New Zealand's only castle!

Well presented and maintained. Fair price for the t-shirt with castle’s image. Very enjoyable having a cup of coffee sitting outside the cafe looking up to the castle.

Larnach Castle was an absolute highlight of our visit. The site is incredibly informative, with plenty of opportunities to learn about the rich and fascinating history behind the castle and the Larnach family. Every room is thoughtfully restored, and you can really appreciate the effort that has gone into preserving and presenting this iconic landmark. The gardens are stunning—beautifully maintained, peaceful, and full of charm. It’s easy to spend time wandering through the grounds and taking in the views. The café is lovely as well, offering a great spot to relax and enjoy something to eat after exploring. Overall, Larnach Castle is a beautifully restored historic experience and well worth the visit. Highly recommend.

We did a garden and Castle tour with added high tea. Everything was exceptional including the weather. The gardens are large and beautifully tended, and with good walking paths. The castle was beautiful and obviously being restored with a passion. However a person with walking difficulties may find the stairs and steps challenging. The high tea was a treat and worth the cost.

Everyone and everything was fantastic and better than I was told it would be. It really is beautiful and makes you stop and think how simple life was then compared to now but in some aspects it was a better life then. The grounds are so beautiful and magical. If you’re really into history this is the place to come.

Self drive to Larnach Castle. Beautiful on approach, an interesting walk through and must go up to the turret via the steep single file narrow steps (Announce you are coming to anyone already coming the other way.) Gardens were nice to have a stroll around as well. Negative: Extremely crowded with regular tour bus fulls of people arriving, so did make accessing some rooms almost impossible.

Such a valuable way to respect and have a little glimpse of history. Tour head phones would be a great addition to describe the rooms and the family rather than trying to fit everyone in one room on entry
