1. Jama Masjid, also known as Masjid e Jahan Numa, is one of the largest mosques in India and is located in Old Delhi. The mosque was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the 17th century and was completed in 1656. It is made of red sandstone and white marble and can accommodate up to 25,000 worshippers at a time. The mosque has three large gates and two minarets that rise 40 meters high.
Interesting facts about Jama Masjid include that it houses several relics including a hair of Prophet Muhammad, his footprints, and an antique Quran written on deer skin. The mosque also had a copy of the original Quran which was said to have been written by the Caliph Uthman but was stolen by Nadir Shah in 1739. 3. Entry to Jama Masjid is free, but there is a fee of INR 200 for photography and INR 1000 for videography. Visitors are required to dress modestly, with men wearing pants and covering their heads and women wearing long skirts or pants and covering their heads with a scarf.
