Two must-visit sites at the Camp : (1) Commandants House - located on the left, just before you get to the main entrance to the prisoners camp (tower). Contains some really interesting story boards of what happened at the Camp. There's many of these displays, but this one was one of the most informative & interesting IMO. (2) Prisoners Camp Entry Gate - We got into the entrance tower via a door on the right hand side, which leads to the upstairs area and some more interesting exhibits. I've been to Dachau and Auschwitz previously, and Sachsenhausen is also worth visiting , particularly as it's only a 40min drive from Berlin. You'll need to allow at least 4-5 hours for a reasonably detailed visit.

We visited the camp and it was reasonably busy but not overly so. We arrived mid morning. We walked from the railway station as the buses are hourly and we had just missed one. The walk took about 20 minutes. Not very well sign posted but we followed an organised group with a guide who obviously knew where he was going. The camp was quite emotional. Lots to see there. Probably only 20% or so of the original camp still stands but what is there is well preserved. Most of the original accommodation huts have gone. But the site and layout of the camp is well illustrated. It was easy (possibly too easy) to imagine what had happened in each part of the camp. Information provided was well done we did not get the impression that anything was held back or glossed over. The main canteen on the site was closed at the time of our visit which we didn't know until we were half way round. So we went about 5 hours without any refreshment. Some communication at the start of the visit would have allowed us to purchase drinks at the small cafe outside the reception before the visit. We didn't have a guided tour, we used the headsets. They were perfectly good. I expect there would have been some added value in having a guided tour but we don't believe that we lost out significantly. Would definitely recommend.

It’s a must to do while in Berlin. Very easy to get to from the city takes under an hour by train then around 20 min walk (very well sign posted from the station) It’s very overwhelming and sad but a definite must, we can’t forget about the past. We hired an audio guide which was fantastic. Make sure you talk water, it was very hot the day we went and not a lot of shade. We visited fairly early in the morning and by the time we were leaving it was very busy.

Very sobering and informative tour. It was well preserved with great static displays. The Monument itself is very touching. It was great to see the History acknowledged, lessons learned spoken, and guilt not attached. The site has a former Hospital onsite. As someone who served in the US Medical Corps, it was interesting to see.

Great tour with Celia. She had a lot of knowledge and was generous sharing it with the group and answering additional questions. I would totally recommend to do this tour, Celia provided history facts, passion and respect while sharing the information.

Amazing! I totally recommend. The experience would not have been the same without Tino's comments. That there are guides with so much knowledge of the history of the place, adds up to a lot.

A very wet excursion because of the rain but that the guide Felipe arranged wonderfully. A real pleasure to have such prepared guides, as committed and as involved with tourists as Felipe.
