Breathtaking Tarawera Summit: Volcano Hike & Crater Descent

It felt really special to be able to visit the crater of Mount Tarawera. It felt barren and isolated, with breathtaking views. The guides were friendly and enthusiastic. The walk itself had challenging parts which added a bit of adrenaline to the mix.

The hike is not so difficult and the views definitely worth it! Even if at the beginning I thought the final part of the hike was crazy, in the end it was not and the guides gave us suggestions about how to handle it. The guides are well informed, prepared and funny. Thank you!

I expected to climb a volcano but did not expect to slide down into the crater and walk inside of it!!!! Initially scary but it was so fun! The views were really beautifullll too and I especially like the walk inside the crater! Highly recommend! It gets hot mid hike so I would suggest to wear layers that easy to take off when it gets hot! :)

The weather wasn't the greatest but it was good to experience the maunga in other elements such as fog, rain, wind and the cold. Our two kaitiaki were good and able to give us kōrero i roto i Te Reo Māori, nō reira e mihi ana kia kōrua Taiwera rāua ko Perez.
