Private Sintra & Cascais: Royal Palaces & Coast Tour

Nelson was an absolute perfect guide. He was knowledgable but was able to make the experience engaging for our children. 10/10 would recommend.

After a lot of research, we decided to go to the National Palace in Sintra (not Pena) and Monserrate, and we were very glad we did. The National Palace is spectacular. The gardens are also nice, but it is quite a long walk so be prepared for that. Our guide Nuno Montez was great. We had fun all day, walking around Sintra and looking in the shops as well.

We had 10 days in Portugal, and saved the best for last! Our tour with Portugal Unknown felt so intimate , private, and tailored to our family, made especially so by Bruno. We were picked up at our hotel and driven to Sintra to visit and learn some of the history of the palaces. We also had an amazing seafood lunch right next to the ocean. Not only does Bruno love history and culture, but because he is from Sintra, he truly knows the area and “hidden gems”. We had just the right amount of free time to exlplore, have gelatos, and take photos. I would HIGHLY recommend this tour with Portugal Unknown ❤️

While the palaces were breathtaking, our favorite moments were along the coast — enjoying the freshest seafood with the Atlantic Ocean stretching out before us. We were told by everyone who visited Lisbon to visit Sintra and Cascais, and they were all right. This is a wonderful day trip, and our guide Paulo made the experience even that much better. He not only provided the history and background, he went out of his way to make sure we got the most out of the time there. Highly recommend this tour!

Our guide Nelson was overly accommodating and we were able to visit and see everything we planned. Plus he took us to see additional sites that we didn’t know about.

Our guide, Joao, was absolutely wonderful. Not only did he help us navigate the traffic and crowds in Sintra, but he also recommended an amazing restaurant for lunch--a small family-owned place that we would have never found for ourselves. The tour itself was also great, since it allowed us to see sights in Sintra, along the coast, and in Cascais before ending up in Lisbon. Our communication with the Portugal Unknown team was excellent, as they were very helpful in organizing a tour with different beginning and ending hotels and with keeping us updated about the tour. Finally, the cost was very reasonable.

We had such an amazing time on this tour. The knowledge of the area and the history was special. Bruno has perfect English and is just really the best guide I’ve ever had. He is now like family! He went out of his way to make our day incredible. The best lunch spot on the ocean, taking us to the spots we had asked about and even gave us direction on the rest of our trip. Don’t hesitate to book with him!!
