It was great! We met up at the Opera stairs where we were split up into groups. Our guide Aurora (sorry if i messed up the name) was awesome and really funny. We had actually booked a different tour and then we decided the day before for this one. Totally the right decision. We really liked Aurora's approach to us as a group. She made the history talk quite interesting. Though I recommend this tour for the first day you arrive, we messed up there, but still enjoyed it. We got to all the main attractions and when we ended she gave us a list of recommendations. The atmosphere was very friendly. It is a free tour, but the organisation runs on our (tourist's) donations. I believe it's worth it and the amount of money you give is up to you, every penny counts.

Tirana is a photogenic city with many interesting building to photograph. The centre, Skanderbeg Square is enormous and a good starting point. From here you get a great view of the surrounding buildings. You can visit the small mosque Et'hem Bey on the edge of the square and admire the huge equestrian statue in the square and nearby is the old Clock Tower. From here you can walk to the Pyramid Building and climb the many steps to the top to get a city view. Also a visit to the Bunk Art 2, an underground bunker now dedicated to the history of Enva Hoxha's communist rule of Albania, is for those who like to read up on history. Its very interesting, in English and well laid out but you need a few hours to do it justice. The old castle area is full of shops and cafes and only the 20ft Ottoman gates remain at the entrance. There are no public toilets in Albania, you use cafes or toilets at sites you visit. Cafes are good value. Could spend a whole day wandering round.

My wife and I have been on mny walking tours in numerous countries and thoroughly enjoyed this tour Our guide was a young guy Khedra and he was knowledgeable ,friendly and funny He said his parents were historians and they certainly passed on their talent to him as he could answer every question and explain the history and culture of both Tirana and Albania in a really interesting way

Very good tour, it gave us a lot of context on Albanian history and things to do in Tirane. Our guide was very knowledgeable on Tirane and answered all of our questions.

I booked two tours with Tirana Free Tours: their free walking tour and a private tour. I coordinated both with Ariola who was very responsive and helpful. The free walking tour lasted about two hours and provided an excellent overview of the city. We had a group of 7 which worked out very well- no problem hearing the guide or asking questions. The tour ends across the street from the House of Leaves Museum which is helpful as the museum is great. Aurora was our guide and she was excellent. Our private, customized day tour was the next day and included Kruja Castle, Bunk Art 1 and the Mount Dejti cable car. Gjenc was our guide and driver. He was also excellent. He did a great job of showing us the sights and also gave us a great education about life in Albania and its history, Tirana Free Tours offers a variety of tours besides the free walking tour and I suspect that they are all very good. Unlike most tour companies, the guides work exclusively for them. I think this provides them with a huge advantage. My wife and I were quite impressed and highly recommend them.

Arber was a great walking tour guide who treated us to an informative and interesting walking tour. He had a great sense of humour and is very knowledgeable about the history of Albania. You’re in safe hands with him as your tour guide.

Fantastic walking tour. Eri was a brilliant tour guide, and hilarious. His story-telling was brilliant and he really brought it all to life.

There is a lot to see in Tirana so some of it is a quick glance but you can go back. Clint was very knowledgeable and passionate so learnt a lot about Albanian history which given independence since 1992 is amazing how far they come. I didn’t realise how many times they had been invaded. Thank you Clint.

Brillaint way to get to know the city and even though I did it on my last day, I still saw things that I had missed and found out things I didn’t know
