Transformative Kathmandu: Private UNESCO Heritage Journey

My partner and I had a fabulous experience with Prashant, our guide, who was outstanding in every respect. Having been initially tempted by the seven-UNESCO-sites-in-one day package, we scaled back our aspirations to the four-site option, and even that may have been over-ambitious: dealing with the often jammed Kathmandu traffic and walking through the city’s maze of alleys can be tiring work, so we were quite exhausted after just two sites (the exquisite Swayambhunath “Monkey Temple” complex and the utterly mesmerising Patan Darbar Square in Lalitpur). But Prashant had not only planned the sequence of our tour perfectly, to make sure that we got to rest a bit over lunch (an unbelievably tasty Nepali thali and khaja at a rooftop restaurant overlooking the Boudha Stupa, our third site), but also was flexible enough to adjust our itinerary after that and replace our planned fourth stop (the Pashupatinath Temple, which as a non-Hindu I could not enter) with a walk through Thamul. Throughout the day — we were out for six hours — Prashant was unstintingly knowledgeable with his guidance, and solicitous of our needs and wishes. He is highly articulate in English; woh bhi achchhi Hindi bolta hai. Strongly recommended!

On this tour I was lucky enough to spend my day with my guide, Bajra. He made every moment enjoyable and engaging, in the midst of sharing his expansive knowledge on the heritage sites and nepalese culture there was also laughter. I couldn’t recommend this tour and specifically Bajra enough, definitely a highlight of my trip!!

I arrived at Kathmandu a couple of days in advance and took in this tour and lo and behold. The actual tour included all of the exact same activities! It was wonderful.

Amazing tour ! Bidhya was incredibly knowlegable and I was lucky enough to have her for two separate tours this trip. Definitely worth going with a guide. Would recommend this tour to anyone exploring Kathmandu.

Great way to see a number of the UNESCO sites around Kathmandu. The explanations about each site by Bidhya were helpful and easy to follow, giving great insight into local Hindu and Buddhist culture and practices. Plenty of time for us to take in the locations at our pace. Hari demonstrated with ease the way to negotiate chaotic kathmandu traffic. Money well spent.

​I had an absolutely fantastic experience on my recent tour covering the major historical sites, including Swouambhu Stupa, Kathmandu Durbar, Patan Durbar, Pashupatinath, Bhaktapur Durbar, and Bouddha Stupa. He was extremely knowledgeable about every location, providing deep historical and cultural context that brought each Durbar Square and Stupa to life. He was also punctual and very friendly, ensuring the pace of the tour felt comfortable and engaging. ​Our driver, Sujan, was equally wonderful. He was safe, polite, and handled the city traffic with great care. The car was nice and comfortable, and I really appreciated the small details—like having water provided—which showed how well the company truly took care of me. ​I highly recommend BreakFree Adventures. The professionalism of Dipesh and Sujan made this tour a highlight of my trip. Five stars!

Highly recommend this trip to everyone staying in Katmandu. Lots of heritage and history behind all of the UNESCO sites. Bidhya was an amazing guide throughout the day letting you know all the details regarding Nepal's culture, customs, and their background. Definitely 5/5.
