Breathtaking Acatenango: Overnight Volcano Eruption Camp

Amazing experience! Wonderful people and really an incredibly beautiful experience! The food was good too, and we even had marshmellows in the evening! Its a tough hike, so don’t overestimate yourself!

This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience! I am so grateful to have committed to this adventure. I was nervous about what to expect, but the Ox team made everything so organized and explained everything. The Ox team truly did everything to make us feel comfortable—they made us hot tea around the campfire and cooked dinner with love, while always checking if we needed anything else. They are the kindest people, and I felt so confident hiking the volcano with them. Lifelong memories were made with a group that started as strangers and turned into friends. I am so grateful to Ox for providing an unforgettable experience.

Had a great time on acatenango, large hiking groups are always a bit of an issue but the guides managed everyone well and made sure the whole Group reached its target. As an experienced hiker i thought the Breaks were a bit too long and i would have liked to spend more time on the peak but its a Group activity and i get that its not easy juggling everyones needs. Food was great considering it all needs to be carried up, sleeping bags were ample warm and i really appreciate the fact you could rent Equipment for free. Also the whole vibe with the guides was great, felt like a big family. For the price i think you cant really go wrong.

Did the Acatenango hike with OX Adventures and it was absolutely class! The weather was a bit mad at times, but it didn’t take away from how unreal the whole thing was. Watching Volcán Fuego erupt right in front of us was unbelievable — proper bucket list stuff. Our guides Axel and Miguelito were legends — sound lads, great craic, and really looked after everyone all the way up. OX had us sorted with everything we needed, so all we had to do was enjoy the climb (and the views!). Getting to do a timed lap at the summit was a brilliant touch — a bit of friendly competition to finish off an incredible experience. Only bit of feedback: Axel could definitely work on his job-guessing skills — he was miles off, but we’ll let him off since he’s so good at everything else. Couldn’t recommend OX Adventures enough. If you’re in Guatemala, this is a must-do!

My daughter and I hiked Acatanango with Ox Expeditions. From start to finish, our experience was beyond our expectations. The staff is very professional, and accommodated our needs exceptionally. We highly recommend Ox, and can’t image a better tour to see the active volcano!

Hiking the Acatenango volcano was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences I have ever had. I recommend going with OX expeditions. Going with them, I could focus on doing the hike and the took care of the food and everything needed to going up there.

Had the most amazing time climbing Acetenango and Fuego with OX Expeditions. Massive thank you to all the OX guides, particularly Henry and Oscar, for all the help, support and fun times provided on this trip. OX organised everything for us, with safety paramount, and ensured everyone on the group had an unforgettable experience. The accomodation at base camp was awesome, and the food provided throughout the trip was perfect. I know from speaking with other groups on the trails that they didn't have the best tour guides. Amazing experience! The hike is tough, but all worth it, when arriving at basecamp. I believe it’s more the mentally struggle than the actual hike. I recommend downloading a good podcast to keep your mind off the struggle. The tourguides Henrry, Miguelito and the third (I don’t remember the name, so sorry), were amazingly patience and sweet! Would 100% recommend them as your tour guides.
