We were lucky enough to be led by Erin who was very helpful and friendly. She made sure everyone was having a good time and was safe throughout the experience. We thought it was a great time but you should be aware that there is a lengthy walk to get to the glacier and then back to the tour bus so roughly half of your time or maybe more is not actually spent on the glacier. There was an area closer to the glacier that some groups parked at but it appeared our bus was too large to park there so we had to do a much longer walk. The equipment provided was great and instructions on how to use it were clear. Would recommend.

Great Experience and just a great day on the glacier and Anna was a great guide. Highly recommend her if you can request guides we highly recommend on doing this excursion since in the next 25 to 50 years the glacier may be gone half of what it is today.

I’ve been lucky enough to travel to some amazing places, but my experience with Troll.is easily stands out as the absolute highlight of my trip to Iceland. Everything about this tour was seamless and well-organized, but what truly made it unforgettable was our guide, Johan. From the very first moment, Johan set the tone with his energy, humor, and passion. He’s one of those rare guides who can make you laugh one second and then captivate you with history, folklore, or fascinating insights the next. He clearly loves Iceland and knows it inside and out, but what impressed me most was how much he cared about everyone in the group. He was always checking in, making sure people were comfortable, safe, and getting the most out of the experience. Professionalism is often talked about, but Johan embodied it. Whether it was explaining safety steps clearly, answering every question with patience, or taking the time to personalize the experience for us, he struck the perfect balance of fun and responsibility. He made sure no one felt rushed and that we truly had time to soak in the beauty of the places we visited. The landscapes and sights were breathtaking on their own, but Johan elevated them by bringing context, humor, and storytelling that made it all come alive. It felt like traveling with a friend who also happened to be an expert guide, and that combination is rare and special. If you’re considering a tour with Troll.is, do it. And if you’re lucky enough to get Johan as your guide, you’re in for something even more extraordinary. I cannot recommend this experience enough — it was the main highlight of my trip to Iceland and one I’ll be telling people about for years. Thank you, Troll.is, and thank you, Johan, for giving me memories I’ll carry forever!

Gorgeous hike! The gear was great and the tour was well organized. Such a cool experience! Wish our guide was a bit friendlier though....

our guide gerard was great! the trip overall was very easy and beginner friendly. my husband and I are not beginners but we still enjoyed learning and exploring all on and around the glacier. we even got to rent hiking books for free as you cannot wear tennis shoes, the clampons don’t fit well with them. ended the trip with some yummy hot chocolate!

We just returned from a trip around the ring road and we included the "Skaftafell 3 hours Easy Level Glacier Hike". Our whole trip had so many highlights but this was definitely up there. Our guide, Gerard from Barcelona, was fantastic and took very good care of everyone. He was knowledgeable and patient. The hike itself was incredible and to have to opportunity to walk on the glacier and experience it up close is a memory I will keep forever. In terms of the hike - my Garmin recorded about 4.5kms however - it also records 200m of elevation gain. Walking on the ice with crampons made most of the uphill very manageable but note that the walk up onto the glacier BEFORE you put on crampons is REALLY steep (and you have to come back down the same area too). Also - assuming its not raining or super windy, your likely going to build up some body heat on this hike so be prepared for layers, at times we were really warm! No complaints overall - the crew at Troll.is are brilliant. The Hof meeting point DOES have 2 bathrooms too.

My family (kids age 14 and 11) did the 3-hour glacier hike in early July. The tour was well organized and a great hike for everyone! Our guide was knowledgeable and made sure that everyone was able to hike at the right pace, take pictures, and provide information on the glacier and the area in general. It is easy to find right off the ring road. We did a 3pm tour which was a great time of day for the scenery and then were able to drive to our hotel just west of Vik and arrive at dinner time. The hike goes pretty high up the glacier to the point that you don't feel like you are just walking along the base, but actually get a very complete experience. The kids even got to drink water running off the glacier (picture). The 3 hour tour was the perfect amount of time for our family and everything was really well run and organized. I highly recommend this tour.

So much fun! Amazing views, great ice hiking and awesome guide. The hike was somewhat challenging but not difficult. Everyone on the tour had a fantastic experience!

Hike of a glacier with a guide. We were Lucky enough to have Eric. He was a great guy who kept us entertained. We arrived to the Troll travel area, were fitted with a harness, cramp one for our boots and a helment and pick. We had a beautiful day so no need to rent water proof pants or a jacket (though they were available). Short drive to the hiking area then a 30 minute hike to the bottom of the glacier. Great exploration of the glacier then a hike back.
