Located just a short drive and ferry trip across the Mekong River, Silk Island is like stepping back in time. For those looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of Phnom Penh. With farmers busy working the rich fertile soils and villages with traditional housing the island provides a fascinating look at Cambodian life removed from the western influences. The center pieces of the tour are a visit to the working silk farm the island is named for and the unique Coconut School run by local volunteers and built from recycled material and what many think of as rubbish.

Siphat our amazing tour guide took us on a journey to silk island and helped us understand secrets of silk worm farming, generational art of looming and the importance of villagers support of each other. Neria a women skilled in looming even allowed me to try my hand at the loom... a humbling experience!! We had the priviledge of seeing the process of shelling soybeans thru the production of selling on the market in a dryed form, not a task for the weak! We visited the local pagoda, learned about the purpose and customs of the monks . We interacted with the local primary school kids as they left school on their bikes excited , laughing and full of joy ! Our expert driver Vanish navigated the burgeoning streets of people cars and tultuks expertly and safely Overall this is an excellent adjunct tour to the main sites Cambodia has to offer .

It was a very interesting trip to Silk Island which is situated at the middle of Mekong River, to which we access by a ferry. There I could meet with local families in silk business, ladies preparing suppers to monks in parogas and children playing in the gardens of schools. Local businesses such as soja beans sheets (fresh and delicious!) and Palm suger cane juice offered interesting experience. These encounters were heartwarming and enabled me to see - without pretending to be exhaustive - aspects of local lives. The highlight was the visit to the Silk Village to understand different phases of silk farming. The Silk Village is also a social project providing jobs to people with disabilities. The guide and driver were so kind, the guide (Siphat)'s explanation was very clear and informative, I truly enjoyed a long hald day trip and return to Phnom Penh!

Great trip! Driving around in a Tuk Tuk and visiting various places on the islands. Weaving Commune is worth spending time, informative presentation of the process how to produce silk. In the end we had a chill time with the guide in a Julie Coffee cafe! Highly recommend!

This was a great way to experience a different part of Phnom Penh! The tour was about 4 hours, of which we spent about an hour sitting with a silk weaver and learning about the process, and another 1.5 hours seeing the rest of the island. Would definitely recommend to others.

We had a very inspiring and pleasant trip to the islands on the other side of Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers. Our guide Piseta gave us great insights of the rural art of living and we highly recommend this trip. It is an excellent opportunity to start your day in the busy town in a calm environment. The tour is easy for average bikers.

Thoroughly recomend this trip.you leave city to experience life in a rural community and tr a vel accross the river by ferry. My guide was excellent who was a wealth of knowledge . We explored a buddist temple as well as visiting a family who produced silk along with the silk cooperative. I was the shown the whole process of silk production and their were lots of opportunities to take photos and drink fresh coconut water.

5 star treatment on cruise and a warm welcome by Nara to the silk farm and weaving house. Well worth the trip and reasonably priced silk scarves.
