Breathtaking Doi Inthanon: Trek to Thailand's Highest Peak
Price From $51.03 per person
Lowest Price Guarantee
On this tour, you can cool off on Thailand's highest peak while taking in the beautiful scenic Doi Inthanon National Park. Nighttime temperatures on the peak can be as low as -8 degrees centigrade. In the cold/dry season, nighttime frosts are common. Daytime temperatures can be surprisingly cold so do not forget a long sleeve jumper. On the way up we will walk on the famous nature trail, Kew Mae Pan (November - May) or Pha Dok Siew (June - October) then visit Wachirithan Waterfalls, The King and Queen Chedi's, (the best views across the park are found here), and then on to the peak of Doi Inthanon the highest mountain in Thailand. Near the top, we will take the Angkha nature walk where you can walk among the unique flora and forests that grow at this altitude. There are both Karen and Hmong villages in the bounds of Doi Inthanon and we will see those at the local market on the way down the mountain before making our way back to Chiang Mai.

P trial has more natural views. K trails has the Highest peak. Not too challenging and easy to climb. Great place for the beginners

This tour was great if you want to do a lot and see the mountain sites… there is one active hike in the middle.

Overall it was a good, but very long day. Great way to meet nice new people, and we saw some great things, the downside, as fun as our tour guide was, he was chatty, jokey etc, but he was too fast, he didn’t stop to explain really anything or answer questions, and was very relaxed about it all, almost not realising we were all there to experience the trails, hear about the nature and history, wanting some more out of it. The market stop is pointless, varying prices of all the same things, just fruit and dried fruit, none of us really wanted to stop for it which the guide was shocked about, and we convinced him to go for 10 mins instead of 15, but it felt more as though he just wanted us there even when we had no interest as a whole group, and the Karen community, although quite cool seeing unique coffee and tea, and some handmade clothing, was also not that necessary. Again, it felt almost as though as it was for the guides friends more than an actual tour attraction unique to Thailand or for an authentic Thai experience, we didn’t get to talk to anyone there, just a brief watch with our guide joking and flashing some random images of coffee beans that didn’t tell us anything. No explanation further than the community there farms the flowers for the pagodas and make their own tea and coffee to sell. We had too much time at both. Or it would’ve been nice to actually understand the community and what they do, why they do it, how it’s done and maybe even talk to some locals to ask our own questions. The lunch provided wasn’t good at all, albeit that’s not what you would stop booking over, but worth mentioning, and considering nothing is really open before 7am in Chiang Mai, getting food is good beforehand, you stop at a 7/11 which doesn’t have many options, and then the mediocre lunch, but that’s it. And you’re out until nearly 6pm. It’s a very long day, and definitely not enough options provided for food, especially when for us our lunch was moved to later to avoid ‘more tourists’ I mean, that’s what we’re all there for. There’s no avoiding tourists, and it’s not worth making us have lunch at 3pm for the guide’s convenience. The stop for the twin pagodas being 50 mins was a little excessive too, not too much information written around the place to take a deeper understanding and appreciate the craft and skills to make it, it’s just a nice photo op. So overall the trip was okay, I wouldn’t strongly recommend it, but it was worth seeing some of the things, and it was half decent value considering some food was included, the van transfers making it easier and the guide to at least take us through the paths. The tours could be a little shorter in some spots, with others not needed at all really, and some extra information about the area, the spots and all that would be great, though that does come down to the guide themselves.

A great trip overall, but as a 40 year old asthmatic I found the trek very challenging. I don’t think it was explained just how steep and long the climb up would be. The steps are not only steep but they are high requiring a lot more energy to push up as well as forward. The guides went off very fast but did stop to wait for the slower members of the group. It was a little cloudy on our visit but some of the views were still good. You will get wet at the waterfall no matter what time of year you visit because of the spray (would have liked a little longer here) the lunch wasn’t great, cold food in a less than authentic shed but pretty much what we expected and we were thankful as by this point we were all so hungry! The market didn’t interest us much but the little village for the coffee was better than we thought and again it would have been nice to have longer here. I would recommend this trip but there is definitely some level of fitness required.

The day was packed with activities focused on the natural beauty and cultural history found within Doi Inthanon National Park. The price of the tour was just right, it included all entry & guide fees, transportation with hotel pick up, and lunch. The group size was appropriate for this type of tour; we had 12 participants, any more and we would have been overcrowded. Our guide was kind and kept us on schedule; he provided some insight into the historic and cultural sights we encountered. I would have liked more interpretation from the hired guide that took us on the nature hike; that guide did not talk to us at all. I asked our tour guide some questions about the plants, but that was not his area of expertise. It was a missed opportunity for everyone that we didn't get to learn about the ecology of the amazing forest we were walking through. I hope they look for skilled interpretive naturalists for the hikes in the future.

Fun tour! What made it even more enjoyable was our guide Kanlaya. She was energetic and informative. She completed the entire hike in flip flops!

The tour was really great. We were outside of our hotel 7:00 sharp and were picked up by 07:10. Due to traffic and weather it can take even until 08:00 so no need to panic if it's a bit late. Our tour guide was Choo (sorry, I don't know if that's how it's spelled but that's how I heard it). He was extremely friendly and very pleasant. He explained a lot of things during the trip - about the Thai cultures, flag, the mountain, religion, royalty and more. He spoke English very well too (it just takes getting a bit used to Thai accent). I was surprised how many things he explained, some negative reviews mention lack of info or bad English but all of that was great here. Before beginning the actual tour we stopped at a shop to grab some snacks and drinks. Lunch is not until 15:00 as clearly indicated so make sure to get something! First we visited the waterfall, then we went to a market. After that, we went to visit the peak and then we drove for the actual hike. You don't get to stop much, it's really a trek. It's 3 km, we had maybe 2-3 few minute pauses before continuing. It took about 2 hours (started 12:20 and finished 14:20). I like hiking and while have preferred to take it slower to observe local fauna, but you're always on the move without much time for it. You'll have time to take plenty of photos you see other people take though! Be warned that hike is A LOT of stairs (up and down constantly), not your usual forest path so make sure you're capable of handling that. Then we went for the pagodas where we 40 min in total, so 20 for each. It really felt not enough as we just rushed to each, take couple of photos and run to the other to do the same. I wanted to read some text inside the pagodas to learn more, but there wasn't enough time. You're always on a timer. So I just took photos of texts for later. This was followed by going for lunch which was amazing! It was really tasty and felt like proper home cooking. Finally, we went to a village where they make coffee and got to try some of it, in addition to few varieties of tea. Here you can buy them, as well as various other souvenirs. Then we left for everyone's hotel drop-offs. I have to say I absolutely loved the tour and would go again if I had the same guide - he was simply amazing. And let's not forget the driver who did an awesome job getting us everywhere on time - it was pouring during the morning. Only negative thing I can say is that it felt a bit rushed at times. It's understandable because even with the few things we did, it took all day. However, I should still suggest to make some kind of improvement to extend visit to pagodas and take it easier with the trek - but even in its current way it's definitely a must-do for, highly recommended.

The national park was beautiful! The tour was well organized and made the most of the full day! Lunch was delicious and it was great having the air con van to get around. Perfect blend of activity! The tour moved a bit fast at times, but would highly recommend!
