Obviously the views are breathtaking and the Monasteries are interested to see. What really made the trip though was Katerina’s knowledge of the area and her willingness to share her personal experience being from the community. Besides that everything was really well organized and all of the drivers were excellent. I can not recommend this tour enough.

Wonderful trip. The bus ride is long but it was worth the ride. Katarina was an amazing host! She was very knowledgeable and personable.

Breathtaking Meteora Tour! With my 2 knee problems, the tour wasn’t as challenging as I thought. The 1st one, Saint Nicholas, was the most challenging among the open monasteries. I gave up after climbing 2/3rds up on this place, not because of my knee but because I was hyperventilating. For a 70 year old lady, I think I did great for my age😅

Our guide Maria is the best. Over all the trip was very enjoyable. However the bus needs more maintenance (air conditioning was not the best) and over all cleaning.

The best day visiting Meteora. We’ve wanted to visit this magical place for such a long time. It was a very long day but definitely worth it. Katerina and Dimitris looked after us perfectly. Katerina couldn’t of been more knowledgeable or helpful (you meet her in the town before going up to the monasteries.. so don’t be confused like us, when you get on the coach in Athens with just a driver). Firstly we went to the hermit caves. A lovely quiet area where you can view the last hermit monks cave/sketes. Katerina told us all about her personal experience with the monk and how the locals help him with provisions . Lunch at a local restaurant was delicious. We then went up to the main monasteries. The scenery is amazing. But be prepared for a steep hike up to the first and smallest monastery we visited (personally I felt this was the most charming and authentic) the second two monestires are also beautiful, wonderful chapels, art work and views. The landscape it’s breath taking and Dimitris stopped plenty of time for everyone to take photos ( and help us take photos) we then switched driver to take us back to Athens. Although a long drive you do stop for breakfast and dinner at a lovely little service station. I couldn’t recommend this tour enough. Thank you.

This was an excellent day trip & definitely worth doing. Meteora is such a magical unique & beautiful place. The monasteries are amazing. My only complaint is that bus allocation at Athens (& also when leaving Meteora) was extremely chaotic & badly managed. There were 4 buses from multiple tour operators parked up with no tour guides present at Larissa station to assist with passenger queries. Eventually one of the drivers appeared with an ipad containing a list of names & directed people to their bus. However, once all buses were full it became apparent there were still dozens of people stood on the street with no seats. Eventually another bus arrived for them & we all departed 40mins late. The transport provided was safe, clean & well maintained. There is a mid way rest stop each way, but it’s very rushed 20-30mins. As lots of buses arrive at the same time you barely have time to queue to use the bathroom & grab a coffee before rushing to get back on the bus so I’d advise taking your own drinks & snacks. Things were much more organised once we arrived in Meteora, we got off the bus & there were 4-5 local guides holding up clipboards with names, as we were all divided up into smaller groups & directed to our minibus. Our guide was lovely, funny & informative. We then visited the hermit caves, took a few photo’s & then stopped at a restaurant for 30mins for lunch. The food was good, with a variety of greek food to choose from. After lunch we then visited two of the monastery’s, and drove to a third to view from the outside (we arrived too late to visit all three due to the delays leaving Athens). We then drove to a couple different viewpoints to take pictures as the sun came down. Before returning to the meeting point to get back on the bus to Athens.

This is one of my best trips. The difference is made by our tour guide Katherine. With history and mythology, she mixed her own experiences, her own realisations. Her grip on the history and politics is incredible. She managed to tie a string between the philosophical Greece with the orthodoxy and the current status of Greece. A slice of this Greek personality is very important for my personal development as a human and as a professional. Meteora trip with Katherine is a lifetime experience.
