There are few landscapes that excite the travelers as much as a visit to the enchanting Meteora. The gigantic rocks with the breathtaking volume and height, as they sharply arise in the edge of a big flatland, interrupt the smooth landscape like they were unreal, form part of an impressive geological phenomenon that you can’t miss the chance to observe closely. Moreover, the human intervention in this eerie scenery is astonishing: Monasteries built in the highest point of the rocks, seem to hover between earth and sky, between human and divine element. In 1989, Meteora was added in the list of the World Heritage of UNESCO.

Meteora was stunning and the day was just perfect: sunny and warm. Our guide/driver, Giannis, was knowledgeable, kind, accommodating, and patient. Aside from a little bit of the squeeze, nine people in a nine-seat van, the trip was great.

The guide was great. Gave plenty of information with enthusiasm. Knew when to give people a break as it is a long day. But it went fast. Our driver was great also. Smooth sailing! Meteora is simply fantastic. If you only have one day, this is the way to spend it.

The impressive build of the monasteries on the top of the rock cliffs and the perfect guide tour history explanations alongside her clear understanding englisch Ms. (Ilena).

It is a good distance (3 hours) between Thessaloniki and Meteora but it’s definitely worth the trip. The travel director outlined the details of how the trip would be done such as stops, visits of two monasteries and time for lunch. She also gave us details of what we were looking at during our trip as well as history of the monasteries.

A trip to Meteora is definitely a must if you are in Greece! The trip from Thessaloniki may have taken 3.5 hours there and 3.5 hours back, but what was hidden at the finish line was breathtaking! Meteora exceeded my expectations from the photos, as this magical place is even more fascinating in person. The experience you take away from this place is indescribable and I definitely recommend everyone to take this trip with Ammon Express. Our very nice and sympathetic guide Eleni told us the history not only about Meteora, but also about Thessaloniki and all the important places we passed along the way. She was willing to give advice, take pictures and was a very pleasant guide. The bus driver, Ilias, was a real pro, taking us safely up the serpentines and then driving us back to Thessaloniki in peace. I will take away an experience of a lifetime from this trip and would definitely recommend it to others!

The guide, Margarita, is truly a gem! I took several trips with her because she was so fantastic!!! I still think back to her kindness, knowledge, enthusiasm and passion for this trip! I even took it twice with her to see almost all the monasteries. She went out of her way to really go above and beyond to make my stay amazing! It was be of the most memorable times of my non-stop Greece adventure that a month later I am finally coming back to write about how wonderful my time was! 💕🙏💕Thank you again for everything!!!

Meteora is a very unique wonderful place: you must visit it. The tour comprise of transportation to the site and a guide that explains you the story of Thessaloniki and of Meteora. You visit 2 monasteries on your own (without the guide) and the entrance is to be paid directly at the entrance (it is not included in the tour). For lunch they take you to a very nice restaurant that has a fair price (also lunch is not included). On a plus, you also have the chance to see Mt. Olympus from the highway when going to Meteora.

Although the trip to and from Meteora from Thessaloniki adds up to about 6 hours, the tour operator and guide does everything possible to make it as comfortable as it can be. Once arriving to Meteora, too, you realize immediately that it is all worth it. The views are stunning, the monasteries are beautiful and steeped in history and spirituality. This tour was a highlight of our trip! Our guide, Eleni, was informative and kind as well.
