The building has a distinctive shape, designed to be energy efficient, with a semi-transparent outer membrane made of glass. The City Hall houses the offices of the Mayor and the London Assembly, as well as public spaces, including a large exhibition space. There is also a public viewing platform on the top floor, offering panoramic views of the city.
