1. The National Elk Refuge is a protected area located in the heart of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The refuge was established in 1912 to protect the wintering habitat of one of the largest elk herds on Earth. The elk can be seen wandering through the snow-covered landscape, providing a truly breathtaking sight. The refuge is also home to bison, trumpeter swans, wolves, and grizzly bears. 2. The National Elk Refuge is open year-round, with different hours depending on the season. From November to April, the Visitor Center is open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. 3. Admission to the National Elk Refuge is free. Guided sleigh rides are available for a fee from late December to early April. Visitors can also explore the refuge on their own on foot, bike, or car. The refuge is located just north of the town of Jackson and is easily accessible by car.
