Java's Hidden Heart: Selogriyo Temple, Terraces & Secret Falls Trek

Visiting the rice fields was a truly refreshing experience. The landscape is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by lush greenery and the serene beauty forest. Our driver Arma was a great driver and guide. Great experience to scape the city buzz.

My guide to Candi Selogriyo was Dear Haidar. He's a great companion and very knowledgeable. He took time along the walk to tell me about the flora and fauna of the area. The views on the walk to the temple are stunningly beautiful so keep your phone or camera handy. The temple does not get many visitors but is worth a trip. If you are looking for something off the beaten track with beautiful scenery, this is the perfect trip and Dear Haidar is the perfect guide! You will not be disappointed!

We did several tours with Bima and personally if I have to choose one, it would be a hard choice between Borobudur and the rice field trekking. They are both very different, with the temple being just impressive, but the rice fields are beautiful and very enriching regarding people and nature. Bima made the experience unique with his vast knowledge of plants and herbs. Surprising, a perfect spot in the middle of the rice fields to have a coffee with excellent Quality, solar power, wifi and credit card payment. We had an amazing experience today! Our tour guide Dani was super friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable about the area. He speaks excellent English, which made everything easy to follow and enjoyable. We were picked up directly from our hotel and brought back safely afterwards very well organized. A little heads-up: the hike to the waterfall is not for the weak. Going down was fine, but going back up… wow, that was a workout. Still, it was absolutely worth it. The scenery was stunning and the whole trip was unforgettable. Highly recommend this tour and especially Dani as your guide!

Beautiful scenery! The rice terrace walk is a steady fairly well maintained path-not steep until a few steps to get to the temple. After which there’s a stop half way down for a drink. Then it’s lunch. Then to a lovely waterfall. Short walk to see it from above so no need to go down & back up(steep) unless you want to go to its base. Our guide was a lovely chap who spoke good English & was very informative. It’s a very slow paced day.

Guided by the super friendly Arma we discovered the beautiful waterfall with the Merapi vulcano in the background and went to the ricefields with the temple at the top. A very nice day with great views and well guided by Arma with an extensive answer to all our questions. A recommendation for all travelers who want to explore the beautiful nature around Jogjakarta!

My girlfriend and I absolutely loved this tour! We were super lucky to have Anggoro as our guide! He was incredibly knowledgeable about the region. Throughout the tour he showed us so much about its culture and nature. Anggoro told us about all the plant species we encountered while trekking, including how they are used by the local population. He also explained how the crops system work. He told us about the history of the Selogriyo, including the meaning of the different statues and symbols present in this small, but beautiful temple. We were amazed at how thoughtful he was, always making sure if we were okay. Even before the tour began, he contacted us through WhatsApp to make sure that everything was settled. He went well beyond what was described in the tour description, recomending where we could have lunch and showing other places to visit, based on our interests. We could have not asked for a more dedicated, polite and helpful guide. Beyond the amazing guide, the trekking itself is stunning! Probably some of the most beautiful seceneary you will ever come across and beyond peaceful. To accompany the mesmerising views, the local population is extremely kind. Please make sure to try the local coffee, which is planted, dried and brewed on the hills of the Selogriyo temple! We left this tour extremely grateful to Anggoro and hope that more people get the chance to experience it for themselves!

Our guide and driver Thomas gave this experience as a tip. It is wonderful to visit these places. The nature and tranquility is very nice after the busy city or tourist spots. Thomas made the day complete by telling all kinds of things about the area and Java. Definitely recommended!
