Being the most famous wooden polar vessel in the world, Fram is a symbol of Norway's significant participation in the heroic age of exploration. The centerpiece of the museum is the world´s strongest wooden ship, the polar ship Fram. The public can go on board and take a look around in her cabins, lounges, cargo hold and engine room. The museum also houses the Gjøa, the first ship through the Northwest Passage. You can also visit our brand new N25 Polar flight 4d cinema, and see our 5 minute introduction film. Note: This ticket is for the Fram Museum only. Combination tickets with Kon-Tiki or the Norwegian Maritime Museum has to be purchased on site in either of the three museums.

A very unique Museum, with a lot of history. It also has a couple of other Musuems around it and all included as part of the Oslo card that we had. The views from around this area, I would say, are a must see part of the overall Oslo experience.

The sheer size of the vessel is truly captivating! Being able to walk on board and explore the ship was a great experience as well. It’s hard to imagine life back then!

Oslo is a fantastic city but the main reason for my visit was the Fram Museum. It contains two famous ships from the classic age of polar exploration, the Fram and the Gjoa, both of which can boarded and explored. In addition, the museum contains extensive information about every important polar exploration including some little known events as well. For those not familiar with this material, the Fram was the ship Nansen had custom built to be frozen into the arctic ice pack in an attempt to reach “Farthest North” (the title of his book). It was also the ship Amundsen used the reach Antarctica and then proceed via dogsled to the South Pole, winning the race that cost Scott his life. The Gjoa was the ship Amundsen used to navigate the Northwest Passage. The trip took 3 years (1903-06) and was the first ship to traverse the entire route. The easiest way to get there is via a ferry located near the Nobel Peace Center.

To explore inside the ship that helped Norwegian Amusden win the race was a n adrenaline rush. Here were the tools of adventure. The proof of the calculated ,strategic intelligent victory.Such a contrast with Scott's self aggrandisement. Writing a diary to be read as his legend.Anusden was real and the well preserved timbers of the Fram echo his achievements .Great experience.

If you are interested in the Polar regions this museum is the tour for you. The sight of the "Fram" in a building is mind blowing and to think of all the expeditions it did and survived.

Enjoyed the ship walk, visuals and history. It seemed a bit unorganized or maybe just too much information to comprehend in a couple of hours.

Museum is definitely worth a visit. Amazing that the ship could have gone through ice on its polar expedition. Go to it!!

Great museum. The actual ship was there and you got to walk all through it. Also wonderful stories of amazing men. Don’t miss the “cold” walk thru tunnel and the new, fun movie in the basement. Very cool.
