Authentic Bangkok: Private Monk Blessing & Buddhist Tour

Moddy was the best tour guide a solo traveler (or anyone) could ever ask for. Not only is she incredibly knowledgable, she was very kind, thoughtful and helpful. As soon as I was interested in a solo tour, I first contacted Moddy via WithLocals. My priority was to see Wats and to receive a blessing from a Buddhist Monk. She provided me with the proper information to help guide my decision. As soon as I received her friendly description of what my personalized tour would be, I booked it immediately on the website to secure my time with Moddy. Because I was far from the meeting area, Moddy arranged to meet me at my local train station. My train station was 1.5 hours away from where she lived. This in itself showed me Moddy's dedication and care to ensure my personalized tour would be a positive experience. She then showed me how to use the transit system, we even took a boat down a canal! It was very exciting. Throughout the tour, she explained to me the history of Buddhism and the Kingdom of Thailand. I learned so much. Moddy is a Historian who had answers to my many questions and took the time to take my photo during key moments of the trip. During the Wat visits, she ensured that I received my Blessing from the resident Monk as well as guided me through Buddha principles, respect and prayer practices. She led me through a meditation and offered me encouragement to continue meditation practice. We also spent a lot of time walking and hiking staircases, the unexpected exercise was a welcomed bonus for me. I truly enjoyed my time educationally, emotionally and physically with Moddy. Afterwards, we had a lovely lunch where she took me to a local, family owned (Michelin starred) restaurant. The cost was very inexpensive and the food was fantastically delicious. Excellent, knowledge-filled experience, visiting temples and learning of Buddhism, and even having the opportunity to participate in some rituals for deeper understanding.

Moody speaks English well. Her knowledge of Buddhism was enlightening and we very much enjoyed the experience of listening to the traditional Buddhist practice of chanting and talking with a monk afterwards. The temples and meditation areas are beautiful. We also took an evening market food tour with Maddy that was filled with delicious food that we would not have known to try. She is very kind and went out of her way to make our experiences on both tours excellent.

Nok was the sweetest tour guide we’ve ever had. She took so much time answering our questions, was INCREDIBLY knowledgeable of all aspects of Bangkok, and gave us such in-depth information about Buddhism in Thailand. She even taught us some of the language! My girlfriend and I left that tour feeling like we truly experienced such an important element of life in Bangkok, and it’s all thanks to Nok! This was an excellent tour. Our guide, Gune, was filled with knowledge and tailored the experience based on out interests. She took us to several temples, provided answers to our many questions was was a pleasure to be with. We sat and had a nice conversation with a monk who added even more information. Don't miss this tour is you want to a deeper understanding of how Buddhism plays a big role in Thai society.

The tour is very interesting, far from touristic places, Araya our guide, who speaks French, explained us monk daily life .This tour helped us to a better understanding of Buddhism before visiting the great temples.

This was my first time using 'Withlocals'; it won't be the last. My visit to Bangkok was made all the better by Moddy. The tour guide was amazing, with a deep knowledge of and understanding of Buddhist spirituality, religion and culture. She was helpful to understanding our difficulties, and patient. I meditated briefly while I was in the temples, and she helped guide us both through that. BTW, the cats in the temple were hilarious!
