Black Sand & Rainforest: Auckland's Wild Coast Escape

This was a really nice tour that included lots of stops and scenery. I enjoyed the short hike in the rain forest and different species of birds that we tried to see. Piha Beach is a wonderful black sand beach and I still have sand in my shoes to prove it.

We have travelled quite a bit in Aotearoa New Zealand and have been on many tours and other guided activities. This was the first time that the guide had a very colonialist approach and attitude. The way she referred to the Maori people and Maori culture was disparaging and not at all respectful. She also spoke of the Maori people and Maori culture in the past tense the whole time, as if they were no longer part of the country and its culture. We were shocked and saddened by this attitude and narrative.

Ian and Elsa were excellent guide and driver. The experience matched what was stated in the offering. Every part was worthwhile. The body of knowledge guide presented was vast and we learned at the stops and during the bus ride. Highly recommend!

It was a full immersion into New Zealand. History and culture all wrapped up in a beautiful trip through a rain forest and gorgeous black sand beach. Would highly recommend. Our guides Isla and Ian were incredible. They loved sharing their country and it showed!

Experience was just as stated in the description. Our tour guides were knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. They arrived at our hotel for pick up on time, the bus was comfortable and there were plenty of opportunities to get snacks and use facilities. The views were amazing and we learned a lot about the origins of the area, its fauna, the bush (rainforest), native plants and NZ admirable efforts at conservation. We would have liked more time at Piha beach which is stunningly beautiful. Overall a lovely and enjoyable day.

We learned so much about the trees and plants unique to NZ on the bush walk. It gave us a foundation for the rest of our trip around NZ. We loved walking on the black sand beach. We could have used a bit more time on the beach but overall the tour was well planned. We also enjoyed tasting Manuka honey and chewing a kawakawa leaf.

Kevin and driver were great. Interesting and knowledgeable about flora, fauna and history. Totally enjoyed our tour

Really great day! Rainforest and the beautiful Piha Beach. Rainy day but with raincoats (provided if you didn’t have one) no problem. Rain added to the dramatic coast/beach at Piha. I had done the tour previously (solo) about two years ago. I loved it so much I booked it again so my husband (who wasn’t on previous trip) could enjoy it. Great driver Thommo and tour guide Noel - knowledgeable and easy to listen to . Highly recommended!
