Itinerary
Day 1

Depart U.S.A.
Begin your journey on your overnight flight to Amsterdam.

Day 2
Tanzania
Arrive at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport and connect to the flight to Tanzania. Your arrival is late this evening, at Kilimanjaro Airport, near Arusha. Stay in deluxe cottages at Arusha Coffee Lodge, amidst the coffee fields of a working plantation. ARUSHA COFFEE LODGE

Day 3 BLD
Tarangire National Park

Sleep late if you wish; the morning is free in Arusha. This afternoon, set out for the bush and Tarangire National Park’s undulating hills and grasslands to experience your first thrilling game drive. The baobob trees grow huge here, but the main feature is the river valley that draws the large families of elephants, buffalo, giraffe, waterbuck and graceful impala. TARANGIRE SOPA LODGE

Day 4 BLD
Lake Manyara National Park

Additional game viewing in Tarangire is included before visiting a local market of traditional weavers and spinners. At mid-day, arrive at Lake Manyara National Park at the base of the great Rift Valley escarpment, with a natural soda lake, dense woodlands and steep mountainsides as your surroundings. MANYARA SERENA LODGE

Day 5 & 6 BLD
Lake Manyara/Ngorongoro Crater

Manyara is a bird watcher’s paradise where you can see flamingo, spoonbill, ibis, pelican, kingfisher and heron. Monkeys caper in the treetops, baboons troop along the paths, the tiny antelope dikdik dart about the bushes and hippos bask in the water! Manyara is also home to the famous tree-climbing lions, so cameras should ever be at the ready. Continue to Ngorongoro Crater, the extinct collapsed volcano that rises 7,500 feet above the landscape. Enjoy incredible views of forested hillside from your lodge atop the rim. On Thursday, drive the 2,000 feet down to the crater valley and its lake. The “big five”--lion, elephant, rhino, leopard and buffalo--can sometimes be seen here on a single game drive. Enjoy a picnic lunch near the lake. NGORONGORO SERENA LODGE

Day 7 BLD
Olduvai Gorge/Serengeti

Travel to Olduvai Gorge, revered by anthropologists worldwide since 1959, when Mary Leakey discovered an early human skull reputed to be 1.7 million years old. Continue to Tanzania’s most famous game reserve, Serengeti National Park. On the seemingly endless grassland and savanna are literally millions of plains game, constantly on the move. Settle in for three nights at the deluxe, tented KIRAWIRA SERENA SAFARI CAMP.

Day 8 & 9 BLD
Serengeti National Park

Enjoy an unforgettable Christmas! For the next two days, you have morning and afternoon game viewing to different tracks of the Serengeti’s expansive savanna, riverine strips, boulder outcroppings and grassy hillsides. Be on the lookout for predators—lion, leopard and cheetah, as well as hyena and jackals. Grazing herds of zebra, wildebeest and antelope number in the thousands and are often mixed with topi and hardebeest. KIRAWIRA SERENA SAFARI CAMP

Day 10 BLD
Arusha/Return Flight

At mid-morning, fly back to Arusha at the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro, with remainder of the day free to pack or relax. Day rooms are provided back at the Arusha Coffee Lodge. After dinner, transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport for your return flight.
