Itinerary
Day 1

Arrive Albany, New York
Arrive in Albany, New York, where the Hudson Valley stretches along the mighty Hudson River. Your hotel is the historic Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck. Two motor coach transfers will be coordinated with arrival flight schedules, one mid-day and one late afternoon. Meet your fellow travelers at the get-acquainted reception and dinner this evening. Day 2 BL
Rhinebeck

Today, take a drive to Hyde Park for a fascinating day exploring estates of some of America's notable landed gentry. Your first stop is at Springwood, Franklin Roosevelt's beloved boyhood home, now a national historic site and home to his presidential library. Take a tour of and enjoy lunch at the Culinary Institute of America, a training ground for chefs since 1946. This afternoon, visit Frederick Vanderbilt's Hyde Park 50-room mansion retreat, where the family spent a few weeks in the spring and fall or an occasional winter weekend. Return to Rhinebeck and your comfortable BEEKMAN ARMS INN.

Day 3 BLD
Locust Grove/West Point

A local guide brings history into focus as you visit Locust Grove, the 150-acre estate of Samuel D. Morse, inventor of the telegraph and Morse code, then take a scenic river cruise to enjoy the spectacular red and golden hues of the Hudson Highlands foliage. This afternoon, visit another extraordinary Hudson Valley estate, e of the most outstanding examples of New York Federal architecture. Later, arrive at West Point to tour the United States Military Academy, whose role in history dates back to the Revolutionary War, and pay a visit to the Museum to explore over two centuries of our military heritage. Your hotel is listed on the National Register of historic places, the HOTEL THAYER.

Day 4 BL
Sleepy Hollow Excursion/New Paltz

Learn about the diversity of the former residents of Sleepy Hollow country, made legend by Washington Irving. Tour his charming country home, Sunnyside, an icon of American domestic architecture. Next, visit Kykuit, home to four generations of the Rockefeller family. HOTEL THAYER

Day 5 BLD
West Point

Boscobel stands high on a bluff with sweeping views of the river and valley below. Learn about its Tory roots and of its dramatic rescue and renovation, which was initiated by Lila Acheson Wallace, co-founder of Readers Digest. Continue to New Paltz and the Mohonk Mountain Resort, your peaceful Victorian Castle retreat in the midst of an unspoiled forest. MOHONK MOUNTAIN HOUSE

Day 6 BLD
Fall's Spectacle

A carriage ride in the fall amid a shower of red, orange, gold and green foliage is awe-inspiring. There are many activities to undertake in during your free time today, and you'll have plenty of "favorite things" to recount at this evening's farewell dinner. MOHONK MOUNTAIN HOUSE
