Legal Requirements for Marriage in this State of Mexico

  • Passport (Mandatory to be able to be married in Mexico)
  • Tourist Card (Issued in customs upon arrival at the Cancun Airport)
  • Must be in Mexico 3 Full Business Days prior the Wedding Day (Saturday, Sunday and Mexican Public holidays not included)
  • Blood Test (mandatory for the Bride & Groom and by law this must be done in Mexico at the designated medical office).
  • A copy of the final Divorce Decree (if either party is divorced). In the event that the Bride is divorced and has kept the ex husband’s last name, the marriage certificate will not indicate the parents names. If it is wished to have the parents names on the certificate it will be required to present a divorce decree in English and one translated into Spanish, both officially done so with Apostille seals.
  • A copy of Certificate of death (if either party is widowed)
  • 4 Witnesses are required:
    • If the witness is a Mexican Citizen:
      A photo I.D. is required
    • Non-Mexican witnesses require the following:
      Passport (Mandatory to be able to be a Witness)

      Tourist Card given at Cancun Airport, Be in Mexico 3 Full Business Days prior the Wedding Day, (Saturday, Sunday and Mexican Public holidays not included).
      Witnesses can be provided. A surcharge of $25 Usd each one for this service will apply.
  • The Bride, the Groom and the Witnesses are required to be present in Mexico and at the hotel at least three (3) full business days prior to the Wedding Day (Saturday, Sunday and Public holidays not included). We require the original documents. Should witnesses be staying at another hotel, they must be able to come to the property to sign the wedding form 3 Business days prior to the ceremony.
  • Marriage in Mexico is valid in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, however it remains your responsibility to reconfirm locally with your own country and State. The Marriage Certificate that you will receive is in Spanish. Please contact your local Court House to inquire about the procedures to legalize and translate your Marriage Certificate. If you are traveling from another country then those listed above, please contact your Consulate regarding Mexican Marriages.
