3-Days Tour to the Uyuni Salt Flat and Colored Lagoons +Sunset+Mirror Effect

Everything was organized perfectly from start to finish. First of all, a huge thanks to our amazing guide Beymar and our driver Blas. They both did an excellent job. They were kind, helpful, and fun to be around. Beymar, in particular, was incredibly knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. He explained everything clearly and in great detail, always engaging with everyone in the group. It was truly a pleasure listening to him — we learned so much and also laughed a lot along the way. The Uyuni area itself is, of course, breathtaking. Every single day we saw something new and amazing — colorful lagoons, deserts, volcanoes, and countless flamingos (we traveled in late September). The Red Lagoon was really pink, and the scenery was out of this world! The weather was great too. Of course, we didn’t see the mirror effect since it’s the dry season, but we knew that before going, and it didn’t take away from the experience at all. As for accommodation, it was actually much better than expected after reading some mixed reviews online. The first night was in a really nice hotel — very clean and comfortable. The second night was simpler but still fine; it was cold, yes, but the blankets were warm and we slept comfortably (just keep some clothes on!). The food throughout the trip was another pleasant surprise — tasty, fresh, and plentiful. We’re not vegetarians, so we had the regular meals, and honestly, everything was delicious. Even my husband, who is usually quite picky, enjoyed all the meals. I really don’t understand the few negative food comments I read before going. Some people mention that if you’re in the car with the driver (not the guide), it can be a problem, but that wasn’t our experience at all. Our driver didn’t speak English, but it didn’t bother us — at every stop, Beymar explained everything to the whole group in detail, and during the rides we chatted with other travelers. Maybe we were just lucky with our group, but it was great fun and never felt like we were missing anything. One thing to note — on the third day, there isn’t much sightseeing because most of the time is spent driving back (or crossing into Chile, depending on your route). Just something to keep in mind. Everything went smoothly — from the pickup to the schedule to the organization. The lady at the office was also super friendly and welcoming. Overall, I absolutely loved this tour. I’d love to come back one day during the rainy season to see the mirror effect. Highly, highly recommend these guys to anyone visiting Bolivia! P.S. The only tiny suggestion — maybe replace the dinosaur prop for the famous Uyuni photo. Ours was a bit… strange 😄. Other than that, everything was perfect!

Super nice experience! Everything was perfectly organized. Hotels and Food were great. Our Tourguide Behimar was the nicest guy! He gave very interesting knowledge about the locations we visited and was always ready to help out with the best pictures. His english was perfect and he is a super safe driver. What a great trip ,great funny guides with a wealth of knowledge, food was lovely especially when having wine at dinner ,comfortable LandCruisers with safe drivers .

This was the best tour of my Peru-Bolivia trip! Everything was very well organized, and the team was highly competent. The landscapes were stunning, and we got some amazing photos! Both accommodations had hot water, and the nights weren’t too cold - though I had rented a sleeping bag just in case. The guide was to the point, informative, and never boring - just perfect! Unfortunately, I got sick during the tour, but both the guide and even our driver took great care of me. Shoutout to Don Pelagio and Edwin! This was an absolutely fantastic experience - don’t hesitate to book with this company!

This tour was a 3-day highlight of a 2.5 month trip through South America; I can't recommend it enough. The landscapes are absolutely stunning, and it's so cool experiencing them in a 4x4. The guides are fantastic and go above and beyond - from providing sunset happy hour on the salt flats the first evening, to making sure you navigate the Bolivia/Chile border crossing on the last day.

The sole purpose of our trip to Bolivia was to visit the salt flats and because of that, I did quite a bit of research into different tour operators and various tours in advance. I selected this tour with Andes Salt Expeditions based on what I had read and I booked and paid for this tour in June for a September trip. I exchanged a couple messages with the tour operator in advance with some basic questions and also received a What’s App message a couple days in advance of the tour to confirm pick up from airport and dietary requirements. We were picked up at the airport as organised and dropped off at the tour office where check in was simply giving our name. As the tour did not start until 10am, we had time to pick up supplies in town and wait - not much waiting area space in the actual office. It is at this point where our experience with the tour operator ends - when it was time to leave for the tour, we got reassigned to another tour operator - Red Planet Expeditions. Maybe I missed the fine print but this was unexpected and there was no warning in advance this would happen. We ended up with a group of backpackers in their 20s/early 30s - we are 48/50. Whether we got the value we paid for, I cannot say for sure from an itinerary, accommodation, or experience perspective.

We had an amazing trip along with our companions in the car, making some lasting friendships during the trip, as well as our wonderful guide always with a warm smile, Eduardo. He is the kindest soul, and what a driver! Eduardo took us to many incredible places with superb scenery, views and moments. Often as well a little away from the other tour cars, or fully alone. Making it even more special. Truly an unique experience from start to finish. Our favorite place was probably Laguna Colorada «the red lagoon» with thousands of flamingos. A very unique place that you will feel so happy to witness. A few things we want to mention. It says in the title «mirror effect» for a 3 day tour. This is not the case (during dry season) and should be adjusted here on tripadvisor. We booked it through the operator directly, and it even specifies that day 1 is ended with mirror effect before we head to the hotel. This is likely the #1 attraction for all tourists and feels odd to exclude for 3 day tour (again, only in dry season). What’s even more weird is that it’s included in all the other tours (1 day, 2 day, 4 day). To pay to experience more (than 1 and 2) but not see this unique place is simply put wrong in our heads. It also felt a little odd being out together with 1 day tour goers on the first day, with little communication about it. While the transition to joining our friends for the rest of the 3 day tour (they did 4 days) was super smooth after the cactus island, it felt a bit weird. We understand it’s for logistical reasons and probably we were the only ones on 3 days during that time. Just worth noting. Also, be prepared for cold nights, especially on the hostel the last night (right after red lagoon), the cold is not exaggerated by others, so don’t underestimate it! We’re Norwegians so we handled it well (hehe)! If you go to Uyuni, you have to book a tour like this, and no one else is better than Eduardo, so ask for him if you can! It felt so sad leaving him and our friends after it ended! Truly a tour and experience you will remember for the rest of your life. Thank you all!

An amazing 3 days exploring not just the salt flats but national parks around Uyuni. Edwin and the drivers were great and very hospitable. Would recommend.

What an amazing experience with Andes Salt Expeditions! Our tour guide Diego and the driver (forgot his name,- Bernardo?) were absolute heroes - they drove us safely and with confidence through the stunning landscapes, all the salt hostel stays and meals were organized perfectly and they excelled as photographers for the group - always optimistic and full of energy and humour! I would recommend them 100% and would happily do another tour in their company! Diego shared lots of interesting information about each site we visited, the local flora and fauna and told unique stories. Our diverse group was also very sociable and happy, which made the trip an absolute treat!
