Te Pā Tū: Exclusive Māori Hāngi Feast & Cultural Immersion
Feast on song, drama, tradition, and divine seasonal kai (cuisine) within our forest Pā (village) blanketed by towering Tawa trees, its blazing bonfires, and forest-formed amphitheatre. Te Pā Tū offers 3-hour evening events that change with each season of the maramataka, the Māori lunar calendar. Across summer, Tū Te Rā celebrates an abundant harvest, and we explore concepts, rituals, and stories of ancient Māori warfare and peace. Throughout winter, Tū Te Ihi marks promise heralded by the arrival of the Matariki star cluster which high and bright in winter skies, signalling the new lunar year – we share the energy and passion of this celebration. Cultural knowledge unique to each season is shared from the outset – rituals, songs, stories and continue across the night. From the beginning too, we share local, seasonal kai - plentiful and delicious. Kai horotai (indigenous canapes) is followed by a torch lit walk to a lavish 3-course fusion feast.

LOVED this experience. Probably one of the best tourist experiences I have ever done. It was so authentic and it made for an excellent evening. I am a solo traveller and this was great to do on my own. Can see how it would be fun as a couple or group as well but it didn't take away from my experience.I loved the immersive nature of it and all the food was just amazing!! So so so much of it and of a high quality. Do not miss this experience if you come anywhere near Rotorua. The pick up from the town centre was amazing as well and very handy if staying locally.

This was, without a doubt, the best thing my friends and I did during our week in the North Island of New Zealand. It is my personal belief that if you travel anywhere where there is an indigenous population, it is your responsibility to learn about the culture, their history, and pay respect to the land you are visiting. My friends and I had no idea what to expect walking into this experience, but we were not disappointed. The Māori people welcomed me and about 65 other people into their village and taught us about their culture from their architecture to combat to the Haka. We shared drinks, food, and a wonderful 5-star meal that my friends and I are still thinking about! This experience is perfect for families, friends, couples and anyone who is looking to learn about the Māori culture. Get ready for the expereince of a life time.

This was a really great experience that was the highlight of my trip to New Zealand. Everything went smoothly from pickup to drop off. I enjoyed the interactive learning opportunities and the performance was top tier.

I've been to several Maori Hangi and cultural experiences in the past, and this was by far the best! They did an excellent job of sharing and explaining Maori culture and heritage. And wow - the food was amazing! After going thru the "village" and learning about different parts of Maori culture (with a small bite/amuse bouche at each one), you then get to see the cooking area and are directed to the dinning room. Rather than banquet style, everyone is seated at a table for 8-10 people and at each table, platters of food are brought to share. The night we were there, mains included lamb, pork belly and duck. I'm not a huge fan of duck, but this was the best duck I've ever had! Nice wine & beverage selection as well (not included). Post dinner was some very fun entertainment where they performed song from around the world based on the countries guests attending were from. Ride to the beautiful forest location and back were comfortable and on time. Would definitely do this again!

So this was an expensive tour for our family of 6…about 800.00 USD. We arrived and were greeted by a family tribe member explaining what to expect. It was drizzly cool weather but most areas were covered or had a fire to keep warm. They did a welcome ritual and then we were separated into two groups of about 15 each to go through all of the different areas of the village to learn all of the different cultural things they had to teach us. Each and every station was amazing and we got a taster appetizer at every station All of them delicious. Let me be clear and say that every person that we met and every person that we talked to that worked there we’re all family and they all treated us like we were family. We felt like we were invited to a private family event. My granddaughter has autism. She is 12 and some of the songs and singing and haka were very much too loud for her. So the chief offered to bring her a pair of headphones to wear during the performances. It was so thoughtful and so kind After going through all the stations, we went to a smaller room where they performed haka and singing for us, and it was magical. In fact, they sing a love song that brought several of my family to tears. It was very emotional and moving. After that we went to dinner and it was a four course meal and to say that it was delicious is an understatement. It is all brought out family style, and it is undeniably the best meal I’ve ever had at any tour anywhere anytime . After we finished eating and dessert was served they came back in and sang to us again. It was one of the best nights we’ve had in a long time. We can’t thank them enough for all the time they spent with us and made us feel like family and made us feel welcome. I wouldn’t hesitate to spend the money on this again and you shouldn’t either.

A truly incredibly experience. We learned so much about the local Māori culture and had a great time doing so. The staff were excellent, the food was delicious, all in all a fantastic evening.

This experience provides a peek into the cultural background of the Māori. It’s a polished experience, with lots of opportunity to interact with the learning. The meal is restaurant quality with generous portion sizes. Highly recommend.

From booking to being dropped off the experience was amazing. Emails received to confirm hotel pick up with description of the bus, driver and host were fantastic and brought a big group of strangers together as though we were all old friends, the different tasters and lessons were interactive, informative and overall brilliantly run. Then came the food...sharing platters of mouthwatering flavours and textures. We went for the drinks pairings one wine one non-alcoholic and both were equally delicious and perfectly matched the foods. Service was fantastically smooth and the place settings were a delight. Thankful I don't need to describe the experience in just one word, but if I did it would be "WOW"
