Breathtaking Douro: Wine, Lunch & River Cruise Escape

I would have given this experience a 5 had it not been for the issue we had regarding the boat ride. We paid for and were promised a trip with no more than 8 participants. However, when we arrived at the dock to board our boat, we were ushered onto a boat with at least 50 people who were part of very big tours. No explanation was given and the ride, without any narration, lasted approximately 30-minutes. When we inquired with our guide, she shared that there was a mechanical problem with our boat and she had not been informed. We did see many other small groups boarding the smaller groups without issue. Our concern is that we were not given the option of boarding that or skipping that part of the tour. We understand that unexpected things happen, however, we were disappointed by the ride and lack of communication. Our tour guide was smart and very pleasant. I would book this tour again, however, I would ask that we be presented with options if the plan needs to change.

Everything went smoothly! Our guide Maria was very knowledgeable and weaved in personal experience with the tour. Maria did a great job keeping everyone on track and happy. The food, wine, port, and views were amazing.

Philip was an exceptional tour guide, driver, and all-around great person. He provided us with comprehensive information about the region and Port Wine in the Douro Valley. He introduced us to some fantastic spots that we would have never discovered on our own. Moreover, given the challenging driving conditions in that area, Philip’s exceptional navigation skills were truly impressive. We had an unforgettable experience and will definitely recommend this tour to our friends.

Our day tour with Miguel in the Douro Valley was outstanding. We enjoyed the stops along the way and especially the wine tasting at Quinto do Roncão and Dalva. Miguel was very knowledgeable and helped make the day interesting and fun!

Travelers should know that it was well operated, fun and well worth the time and money! We both were overwhelmed!

My boyfriend and I spent the day with Filipe and he was an absolute blast! He was full of knowledge, humor, sarcasm (all in good fun). There were 2 other very pleasant couples in our van; within the first hour of our ride, Filipe was either filling our heads with trivia or hilariously roasting us. The tone set by Filipe and being in the company of such an amiable group right off the bat made the drive to the Valley go by so fast. As far as the estates we visited, both were so charming and enjoyable in their own ways. Both estates have been run by the same family for 10-12 generations and their love for Porto wine shows everywhere. We tasted many different varieties which were all amazing. Our delicious lunch was served family style and we were joined by Filipe and, of course, some lunchtime antics. I highly recommend this tour and if you're an outgoing group, please please request Filipe!

Would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Portugal. AND If you are lucky enough to have Jorge as your guide, you will thoroughly enjoy his input & personality. He made this tour! It was a great day! We even invited him to visit us in Texas if he got to the US.

Excellent tour of the Douro Valley. Rodrigo, our tour guide, was knowledgeable and entertaining. We enjoyed visiting the smaller, family owned vineyards.

All day. Fabulous trip. Both wineries were family owned and had a special touch. Andreia our guide went the extra mile and a great driver on the mountain roads.
