Salar de Uyuni: 3-Day Surreal Salt Flats Odyssey

Come prepared because it is very cold. Specially at night. Check the weather based on the time of the year. It is a desert and you wont necessarily have stores around but great experience overall. Dates were beginning to mid april 2025

The tour is great. We really enjoyed it and saw a lot more than expected. The first day on the salt flats was good, but for use days two and three in the desert, right down to the border with Chile, were brilliant. We stopped to see something every hour or two. As well as very different landscapes, we got to see masses of vicuñas and flamingoes, vizcachas, llamas, rhea, birds. The driver gave basic introductions but wasn't really a guide. Though he was happy to go deeper and chat when asked questions. We would've liked more info without asking about time to the next stop. What we would've liked is more time at some places to take it all in: sometime even 30 minutes wasn't enough. But to see everything all the way south and get back to Uyuni by 5pm on the third day made that difficult. That's the trade off. Accomodation and food was fine, though as recommended you do need to bring snacks and water for the road. It is a rugged experience and June is cold. We were warm in the beds in the accomodation, but be ready to be cold at this time of year, even right next to a geyser. Before the tour in the office the staff were patient with us: you don't really know what it's going to be like and all their advice was sound. An excellent experience. The tour was well organised, the food was good, and our driver, Eduardo, was very experienced and knowledgeable. He was also a great photographer and made sure we had as much time as we wanted at each stop. We did the tour in June, and the temperatures at night were extremely low. While I expected the second night’s accommodation to be basic, I wasn’t prepared for how cold it would actually be. We had to rent sleeping bags (the beds have three blankets, which is on the limit), something I only found out about by chance. The entire lodge was freezing, and unfortunately, our room had an unpleasant smell. Bolivia is currently going through tough economic times, which may explain some of the conditions. Still, agencies should ensure the lodges are better equipped to host guests, perhaps by supporting them more financially. If you're visiting in June or during the winter months, make sure to bring proper winter gear and be ready for very cold nights.

Do not hesitate to choose this company for your tour! I went along as a solo traveller and had the most incredible time. The drivers (Alberto & Kevin) were lovely and so professional. We had 12 people across two cars and developed such a nice bond over the days, which were run smoothly and without hassle or any feeling of being rushed. The locations we visited were all so vast and interesting, the accommodations were simple but comfortable, and the food was great. I felt very safe and cared for and this tour really expanded my appreciation for the incredible, beautiful country of Bolivia. Thank you so much Skyline Traveller for the most incredible three days! We chose Skyline over 2 other agencies we checked and were really pleased we did. Even though Ivan our guide had limited English and we have limited Spanish, it worked out really well. He was very kind and patient with our group and did an EXCELLENT job of taking our Salar photos. The food was plentiful and good quality, and the accomodation was surprisingly good.
