The staff is not very friendly. When we asked for a map we were given an attitude. Most of the animals were not out due to the cool weather. We booked several activities including the kangaroo encounter and the lory landing bird encounter. It does state these exhibits close at 5:00. We arrived at 4:30 and the staff says we are not taking any more people because they are closing the exhibits. We asked why and got a bull answer. The only animals out were certain birds and the hippos. We were going to see if the bears were out, but I was very frustrated with everything at the park. We went to guest relations to voice our concern. The staff member was nice enough to refund us the add ons. If you are looking to go to 5he Japanese Tea Gardens they are next to each other. I have been to other zoos across the country and this one is near the bottom.

I would go to this zoo if you love birds. There are so many to see. I found the staff very knowledgeable especially the young man in the flamingo mingle area and the men in giraffe feeding area. I wasn’t impressed with the other animals— most weren’t visible or were sleeping. The viewing window were frequently very dirty so it was difficult to see much.

Our family used to love going to the zoo. Now my husband and I dread it knowing each time we go it will be a day of the zoo nickel-and-diming us for every little thing. Want to pay for your child to have an animal experience? Get ready to buy 2 tickets for everything instead of one. Why? Because you have to accompany your child and you have to pay to supervise them, even if you are not participating in the event. Your child can’t ride the carousel without you? You still have to pay for 2 tickets to stand next to them. The online ticketing system is a racket, the convenience fees add around 30% to your purchase cost. Ok, can I pay in person? No, only online but YOU must pay for the zoo’s convenience. If we hadn’t received zoo passes as a gift, we wouldn’t be back. There are better zoos in Texas that don’t treat their guests like money-trees.

Good to buy tickets on Viator. Cheaper tickets but still the same experience. Viator makes it easy to access and buy tickets.

Lots of the animal areas need lots of TLC. We did get to see some very huge snakes. Black bear was panting trying to keep cool water in exhibit was empty. Congo area opens up next month. So all attention is probably going there but all animals need clean cool water to drink it was hot out.

It was a wonderful day. The staff at the zoo were friendly and accommodating. We went during the time the zoo also had their ZooBoo display.
