Andrea did a fantastic job of placing the period of Romanian communism in context and sharing personal vignettes which added to our understanding of the times. This tour really set the stage for our stops in other formerly communist countries along the lower Danube.

Octavia was wonderful. His knowledge of Bucharest and how communism influenced the history of Romania was amazing. The story he told gave us a clear glimpse into how communism impacted the people, the architecture and culture of Bucharest. I highly recommend Octavia and this tour.

The tour was very informative and a great walk around the city. Our guide Ivo was very adaptable to the situation that day, which was that there were protests around and a lot of police blocking certain alleys and paths we were meant to take. We never felt unsafe because of either, but it was oddly immersive taking a tour about communism in the midst of a heavy police presence (no, I’m not comparing modern Sofia police to their Communist predecessors, it was just coincidental). Anyway, take the tour to learn some history and maybe meet a lot of nice folks, which we did.
