Athens: Mythic Odyssey – Gods, Heroes & Iconic Wonders

I had this 4 hour private tour with my family (wife and four kids ranging between 10 and 14). The tour was absolutely amazing. The guide was second to none and was able to keep my kids fully engaged. After four hours my kids said it was wonderful and they didn’t feel it was 4 hours but rather not more than two hours. When you have fun time flies.

Our tour guide Voula was absolutely incredible. The mythology tour was brilliant, with Voula explaining how mythology shaped ancient Athens and wider Greece. She explained how the monuments seen on the tour were constructed to honour the gods but also served practical purposes and have been used as propaganda from ancient up until modern times. The details she gave about the construction of these temples was really excellent. The tour took around 4 hours from start to finish at a leisurely pace meaning we had plenty of time to ask questions and take some pictures at each monument. The small group size meant we could always hear and see and gave a more intimate feel to the tour. The early start to the tour was fantastic as we beat the crowds and had plenty of time left in the day to go and explore more of Athens. If you're looking for a more in depth tour of the monuments and have an interest in Greek mythology then this tour is for you!

Where to begin with this amazing tour!! Stelios was fabulous from start to finish and gave these remarkable landmarks the attention and expertise they deserve. We were mesmerized by his deep understanding of archeology and the stories he wove using ancient mythology had us transfixed!! We had a couple older relatives in our group with limited mobility and Stelios was so patient and provided numerous breaks for rest, we cannot thank him enough for that. Overall incredible experience!!!!

Our family LOVED our tour with Demi in Athens! We booked the mythology tour as our 9 year old son loves Greek mythology. It was a huge hit! Demi was amazing. She told the stories so well and she was really kind to our children. The company was informative and communicative - we knew where to be and when and felt cared for. Having a guide take you up the Acropolis is worth every penny. We didn’t miss anything and even got a break at the top to wander on our own. I couldn’t recommend booking a tour through Alternative Athens more!

This for was so much fun. Our guide was very knowledgeable. I asked so many questions and she was able to explain. The sites were great. The hike was much easier then anticipated

Great tour - the guide was extremely informed and presented information in an interesting and fun way. She was mindful of the group and made sure everyone got to see what they wanted.

A tour is only as good as the guide. Dani was phenomenal! So much knowledge, well paced, kept the group together as much as possible without causing blockage to others. Also frequently tested our own knowledge of the Gods. Having studied mythology many many years ago i was pleased that my memory was still reasonably intact. But, Dani always had just a little bit more to add that we were not aware of. If we were to do it again, Dani would be our choice for a guide.

What a fabulous tour exploring the Acropolis and surrounding sites and introducing all the mythological stories and beliefs associated with them. We had the best 2 and a bit hours visiting the whole complex and listening to Angelica who was a fabulous story teller and guide.

Interesting to hear how everything is interconnected with the mythology and religion, fascinating slant on the tour. Our guide Sofia was fantastic! Really knowledgeable and passionate about the subject
