Unveiling Puerto Plata: 4-Hour Authentic City Adventure

Edwin gave us a private tour for our honeymoon trip at one of our stops off of our cruise. It was simple to find our way to the pickup spot and he was happy to accomodate us. This tour was perfect for us to have a special sneak peek into what Puerto Plata has to offer. For those interested, know that this tour was not necessarily a historical one. If youre looking for a deep dive into historical sites and more in depth history, look elsewhere. However, if you ARE looking for a few hours getaway to explore some of the city and its highlights do it! We loved how interactive this tour was with opportunities to roll our own cigars, try some chocolate, and take lots of pictures. Edwin was happy to take our photos and answered all of our questions about the things we saw. There is a free tasting at the rum factory, but we dont drink so we just smelled the 7 different rums. It was a fun experience and we left with new memories. Edwin speaks English as well so that helped a lot with the tour being enjoyable. Definitely worth it for us, but we are a young couple so its all new as well. The reviews are very accurate so read some of those too to understand what Edwin has to offer 😊 Also a side note, Edwin did an excellent job making sure we felt comfortable and safe the entire time. He provided us with fresh cold water and a chance to get some souvenirs at the end. Although, some reviews said this was a money grab, I noticed that the purchases I made were unique and cheaper. At the other places I looked, I couldn't find the exact same items and the ones that I did find the same that I had purchased on the tour were much cheaper than the prices offered in the port. Wow, what an amazing tour of Puerto Plata! We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Edwin and San Francisco, they were caring, kind and very knowledgeable. We got to see many historic sights, enjoyed tastings and did some shopping (be prepared with cash). All in all it was a great time and I would recommend it. Allow for 10 minutes to walk from the ship to the tour van, we did not know the Taino Bay port was that large.

Excellent tour. Priced appropriately. Length of time is perfect. Every stop is great. Francisco was excellent as pur guide and David was excellent as our driver for our party of 10 people.

I expected a tour of the historical sights(forts, founding,etc) but this was more of a shopfest. Went to rum factory(I don’t drink), cigar factory, jewelry store, and trinket shop, then finally to one of the forts-just dropped off to look around for abt 15 minutes-no history given. (Pd the $4 entry fee to go in-lots of facts inside fort-wirth it) “Guide” Francisco was very nice and friendly but provided only minimal historical info. Each stop was really to buy rum,cigars etc. Will say no high pressure to buy anywhere-but this was a shopping trip not really a city tour.

Great tour of the hot spots on the city! My husband enjoyed the rum tastings and my favorite was the chocolate store. Got some nice lotion cream that smells just like cocoa beans. Yumm. Van was very nice and air conditioned. Even let us stop at one of the pharmacy’s. I know every port has some type of pushy vendors but beware of the vendors at the fort one was extra pushy which doesn’t bother me you just gotta know how to handle them. All and all def worth the money for a private tour as it was just us and another couple!

This was an excellent private tour and covered all of the main attractions in the city at a great price and not the large ship tour group experience. Highly recommend it!!

More walking than we thought. Parking was in dumpy lots. Guide and driver were very caring. Everywhere we went we encountered hard sell - the jewelry store was not on the itinerary. We didn’t get to really see the cathedral - the guide said it was closed for siesta - at 11am????? We barely even saw it from outside - he said we didn’t have time to walk down the street to take pictures from the front!

Wonderful time spent with Edwin and Francisco. Trip was well planned and thanks them to also well documented (lots of pictures).

Edwin was fantastic! He was extremely knowledgeable and made us feel like family! Highly recommend!!

Knowledgeable tour guides provided historic overviews at each stop and were quite accommodating for our party of seniors.
