Unveiling Puerto Plata: 4-Hour Authentic City Adventure

We booked the Puerto Plata City Tours instead of the cruise ship excursions, and we were so glad we did. Edwin, the owner, was very communicative prior to the tour and was very professional. He picked up us in his air conditioned vehicle promptly at the entrance to the port, and we were surprised that it was a private tour! Edwin and Francisco were very attentive in making sure everyone was comfortable and provided cold bottled waters. Our tour included a tasting at a rum factory, rolling cigars at a cigar shop, chocolate tasting at a specialty store, the historical town square and church. This was our first visit to Puerto Plata nd he and Francisco made it very special. We HIGHLY recommend Edwin Tours when you are visiting Puerto Plata. Thank you Edwin!

Awesome tour from start to finish. They stayed in contact to verify pick up time and place. Our guide took so many pictures for us and was very knowledgeable. We only had one other person on the tour with us and shared an air conditioned van. The price was about half of the cost of booking through the cruise line and we got a credit for future bookings that we will be using tomorrow at St. Kitts.

I had Edwin tours when I booked city tour in Peurto Plata, he arrived on time for pickup. Francisco was a guide tour, he was friendly, funny and excellent photographer!! Please have them as guides tour if you visit Peurto Plata 😊

This tour was absolutely fantastic, cannot recommend it enough. We were picked up at the meeting spot and jumped into a well air-conditioned van. The two tour guides, Edwin and Francisco, were very friendly, and answered any and all questions we had. We also had some questions prior to the Tour beginning, and they were quickly answered via the app. As described on the website, the tour included multiple areas in Puerto Plata, and the tour guides safely navigated through various areas in the city. Francisco was also kind enough to take photos of the couples on the tour, wherever they wanted photos taken. Cold waters were also readily available to us, which were extremely appreciated. In our particular minivan, there were only four of us, so it was easy and enjoyable getting to know the tour guides as well as the other two passengers with us. It definitely made for a nicer form of transport and seeing the area, as opposed to 50+ people jammed together on a bus. The only downside is the walking trek from the ship to the main road, which is where you will meet the tour guides. In the beating sun, it’s a bit of a challenge. Make sure you wear comfortable walking shoes, and maybe take a water with you. But even if you forget a water, you will be offered a nice cold one upon arriving at the meet location. I would not hesitate whatsoever recommending this to our two family and friends who are visiting Puerto Plata in the DR. Thanks so much Edwin and Francisco!!

We had an excellent tour with Francisco and Edwin. We had never been to Puerto Plata and they showed us all the highlights. The rum factory was outstanding and the opportunity to roll a cigar was a fun experience. I would highly recommend this tour.

We were going to take a cab to the city and do this ourselves but we would have missed places like the fort. The city is great, lots to see! Drivers will take you places that they are obviously friends with the owners or making commissions. People can be very pushy and everyone expects a tip. They will hand you a bird or take your camera and take a picture. Make sure you bring small bills. Still a great experience.

This is an over view of puerto plata. Highly recommended for first timers. Rum factory was the highlight with 7 different rum to taste.

Lots of information about Dominican Republic culture. Great historical area, clean and safe for out of country travelers.

What a gorgeous city! The staff was so attentive, and we had an absolute blast. The Umbrella Street was such a vibe, and the rum tastings were a real treat.

We had an amazing tour with Virgilio with Edwin Tours! He was friendly, a great communicator, and made pickup/drop-off so easy. The tour was customized to our interests, and he was very attentive to our needs throughout the day—always keeping us informed and even providing water between activities. Virgilio took us to lunch at a local restaurant, which was unforgettable (the red snapper and sides were incredible!). The vehicle was clean, comfortable, and cool every time we got in. Virgilio also shared great insights about the local economy and really looked out for us with the locals. Highly recommend Virgilio with Edwin Tours—excellent value and we’ll definitely book with them again!
